Gingrich Becomes Media Target On Eve Of S.C. Vote
Investors Business Daily ^

Posted on 01/19/2012 4:19:51 PM PST by Mount Athos

The dominant liberal media are going all out to destroy Newt Gingrich — just as two polls show him overtaking Mitt Romney. It turns out, when a conservative Republican is the target, old news is big news.

The latest polling gives Gingrich front-runner status in South Carolina just days before the state's crucial primary.

In reaction, the major media have launched an all-out nuclear strike at Gingrich — the eve of the conservative South Carolina primary being the perfect time to release the most damaging dirt on a conservative candidate.

Truth be told, Marianne Gingrich's ABC News interview, in which she tells the world of how the former House speaker wanted an "open marriage," is not news.

Ditto a similar Washington Post interview. Nearly a year and a half ago in an interview with Esquire, she said pretty much exactly the same thing: that Gingrich was asking her to tolerate his having an affair with the woman who is now his third wife.

But the big question is whether the liberal media will succeed in using her as a tool to destroy a major conservative presidential candidate — someone who, they know, might just wipe the floor with President Obama in a one-on-one debate.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry is a prominent, religious-oriented conservative, and this week he endorsed Gingrich for president, pointing out that "Newt is not perfect but who among us is?"

Sarah Palin, arguably the leader of politically active social conservatives, said that if she were a South Carolinian, "I'd vote for Newt."

Perry and Palin can't be happy with Gingrich's personal foibles, but they know a media assassination attempt of a conservative who threatens liberal power when they see one.

I think negative attacks by the media actually help Gingrich, as far as South Carolina goes anyway.

The liberal media (like those women on The View) claim that the republicans are hyprocites because of the family values issue though they in turn use a distraught woman (in terrible emotional pain and who is sneaky) who was married to a conservative man to help in their quest to destroy the woman they are cheering for. What a bunch of wacky backwards thinking. We are women. We are strong! We will stand by our sisters if you are Liberal! The media is on suicide watch. Romney's team will be out to hurt Newt tonight big time. Wolf Blitzer says on his web site that he will bring up the controversy of Newt's marriages. Going to be a big set up. God Bless Newt and Rick; they are the media's targets (not Romney for now)

Why is everybody jumping to defend the amphibian? He is a deplorable man. I will not support that chump for anything in the primary.

If he gets the nomination I'll have to hold my nose (anyone but Bamster), but damn is he a scumbag.

The marxist media just need to keep at it. They are losing their grip on controlling the masses. How much money does Diane Sawyer make in 30 minutes again?

Yes.

It’s either four years of Newt or forever more, the boy-king.

Newt isn’t perfect, but he isn’t really much worse than any candidate that has existed.

He’s really the best we got right now and we have to support him unconditionally, unless something really serious comes up.

I'm proud to say that my warts are not anywhere near in size to the epic-ly proportioned ones owned by Newt.

Plus, I'm not running for president.

I have news for you, all fall short. That’s Biblical. You are no better nor worse. Gingrich acknowledged his shortcomings. You on the other hand point and think you’re better. Publicly stating that you have shortcomings and have asked for forgiveness shows the mettle of a man.

Dude, I am not so much here to defend Newt as to bury the Liberal Media.

Did these assholes go to John Kerry's jilted first wife to ask her about him? Has anyone in the "Mainstream" Media ever tried to find one of Barach Obama's students?-- or college classmates for that matter?

I am tired of the character assassination campaigns. It's another illustration of the term "Drive-By Media." They did in Herman Cain-- now they want Newt's scalp.

Frankly, any GOP voter who listens to any MSM report less than a week from any election should turn in his or her registration card and join the sheeple.

When did he ask for forgiveness? Romney was pro-abortion but claimed to have changed his view over to pro-life. Maybe thats true, but I can't trust him. Same goes for Newt; he went through wives like tissue paper, and even if he's sorry now, he still did the deed.

But I've not seen anything to make me believe he's sorry. If he's apologized please direct me to his statement.

You might be right on this - we're all so fed up with the MSM trying to pick the most liberal candidate for us that we're standing up to them no matter what... This might backfire for them...

I think you should do some reading.

Newt was 16 when he met his first wife. She was his teacher.

Marianne was his second wife and he met her while married to his first. And SHE'S yelling like a scalded cat? Ha! They separated for 6 years and tried to reconcile. Didn't work. While they were LEGALLY separated they dated others and Gingrich met his current wife.

He has stated in interviews that he has blown it and asked God's forgiveness.

You either want truth or you let the MSM play you. Your choice.

Judging by the comments of the Freepers, we make it too easy for liberals to pick our candidates for us.

There are those here that demand absolutely perfect character qualities of the Republican candidates and the media goes about looking for chinks in the armour.

When they find those chinks, we unceremoniously dump the candidate out on the street. Can you blame quality Republican potentials for passing up the opportunity to serve some time in office?

I think the fact that Newt, under these conditions, is still willing to run speaks well for him. And there isn’t anybody who is showing Newt would sell out the country.

We need him.
