And then there were three and a half minds left campaigning for the Republican presidential nomination: Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul.
Hosted by CNN's John King at the North Charleston Coliseum.
That’s alright. Our handsome Texas governor did us proud.
The clear break: And then there were four, or two groups of two. It was clear from audience reaction and I agree with the audience, Newt and Mitt are in one group and Rick and Ron are in the other.
I can not vote for Mitt in the primary. Paul was great, but there was zero foreign policy in the debate. Rick suffered from first person syndrome (FPS). Michelle had the same problem ... “I did this”, “ I did that” ... “I, I, I.” Newt dealt with ideas, and we assume they are his ideas, but it wasn't “I, I, I.” Most likely, a good chunk of those ideas are from some policy analyst. We know Newt reads, not a bad thing. However, the speak coming from Rick was sophomoric. (a good moment for schooling my elder daughter who will be going to states for mock trial in Pa. She's a junior by the way, not a sophomore..) Rick was not presidential in my estimation. I saw little evidence that Rick could debate Obama effectively.
Despite Mitt's stuttering, replay the video, it is there, I'd have to say he is in line for 2nd or 3rd place in the debate. Since the debate did not deal with foreign policy, it was a major advantage for Ron. I found myself asking for Ron Paul answers to questions, knowing what they would be. We know how Ron is weak beyond our borders. Given that knowledge, Ron did not improve his position in my eyes. Based on debate performance, Ron came in second place to Newt, close to Mitt. Based on knowledge, Ron is in third place, ahead of Rick. I do not think Rick can lead, I do know Ron will not screw up fiscally.
So that leaves the final tally: Newt won. Mitt is hanging in the top tier. Then Ron, followed by Rick. I'd vote for any of the over the occupant in the white hut. Newt was the clear winner. Rick needs to drop out next week. Paul should do the same, but most likely won't. Mitt is toast. Let him waste money and further prove that Republican Party leaders down to the state and county level need to shut their traps and let conservatives vote without interference.
Uh, if folks like you continue to spittle the lies rather than cite the truth of the matter, then yes, it will not bode well for America. But then some folks find more solace in gutter play than in standing up for what is right, and spreading the lies spewed by the media is not ‘what is right’.
I had that over Thanksgiving. Hot tea with brandy and honey helped alot! xoxo
Yeah, he just comes across as a kid among the grown-ups, itching for a fight.
LOL!
Holy Carp!
I thought they all did well. Paul did very well on domestic issues as usual but of course has that pre ww2 military mindset. Santorum scored points as easily the biggest social conservative, made good working class arguenys on manufacturing and exceeded expectations. Newt has the opening salvo but then focused on how government creates jobs. Mitt was the one being attacked and held his own and defended private sector job creation.
Thank you for that detail. I only hope they do not play editing games the way they have in the past on replays of significant things. I’m putting the kettle on ... no popcorn on this newly root canaled tooth.
True. The difference is, and I was never one of them, but for some odd reason, a lot of women though Clinton was good-looking and charming. Women are a lot more forgiving of a good-looking, charming man.
That said, Newt is still our best choice at this time. I’d rather lose with Newt than lose with Romney.
Just google, single women obama 2012”
They loved him in ‘08, but percentages were even in ‘10.
Recent info, makes it look even worse for hussein with the ladies. Funny how they get that “used” feeling.
I have a lot of Catholic relatives. I don’t see where that comes into it.
Please stop the ridiculous overblown Rick S talking points from the Paul bots !
Rick S is way
More conservative than Mittens and just as conservative as Newt !
Newt gave is the disasters like Motor voter law which increased
Dem voter fraud .
Newt stupid tax revisions Mae more people free of federal taxes !
Newt and global warming bs.
Spare us the Rick S hysteria
I think your insights are right on the mark.
I’ve always like Santorum, but he did one thing tonight that I thought was pretty low....well several, but this one stuck in my craw.
He and Newt were certainly partners in the GOP takeover in 1994. But not only did he give Newt no credit (when he clearly deserves most of it), but he talked about behind-closed-doors discussions. Really low-rent.
I’d like to see just one person ask this qustion of one of the backstabbers who served with Newt back then:
“If Newt is so unstable, erratic, and undisciplined, how did he even GET to be Speaker over 250 other candidates?”
I now view Santorum pretty much as a scumbag.
Hank
Take care, you know the lay of the land now.
I missed Perry in the debate......
This is the best hope we have moving forward.
Good for Newt. Good for Perry.
Work DC from the inside and the outside
And if so-called 'conservatives' [sic] continue to support a moderate like Noot to the point he wins the nomination, then enjoy another four years of Obama. I won't be here, because I will have been banned for supporting the conservative.
The fact is Newt and his ex-wife were seperated for 6 yrs. living apart. They agreed each other could date during that time...Newt attempted a reconciliation after that but it flopped majorly. He filed for divorce and she knew well this was coming for years.
Hopefully the truth of the events will come out...but it appears the news organizations aren't interested in talking with those who can dispute Newt's ex-wifes attacks.
I looked into this further today...went way back in history to see what their marriage and relationship was about. IMO it was a marriage which should have never happened.
Wasn’t it inthe separation agreement filed with the court. This was all hashed out years ago. Newt and her were not living together.
Wow. Pretty much beats the crap out of the ol' "But but but but ... what about the Supreme Court nominations!!!"
Romney HAS TO LOSE. No matter how much Republicans wan't to believe otherwise, Romney would be as bad as Obama. In every way.
