Anonymous, the group of activist hackers, claimed to have crashed the Justice Department website on Thursday in retaliation for prosecutors shutting down the popular file-sharing site Megaupload.com.
"The government takes down Megaupload? 15 minutes later Anonymous takes down government & record label sites," the group wrote on its Twitter account.
A Justice Department spokesman did not confirm whether the agency had suffered a cyber attack, but justice.gov was not loading as of Thursday afternoon.

Holder is prolly behind it himself, so it gives this administration an excuse to take over control of the internet.

It's ain't pining for the fjords, it's dead.
They broke it real good.
While I cannot condone a cyber attack, aw.. who am I kidding, I laughed my @$$ off.
Not at the attack, but at the thought of gooberment officials standing around looking like stunned oxen. Wha happen?

to take over control of the internet.Great theory, except no-one can control the internet. All the government is doing is strong-arming some central DNS servers to give wrong data on IP addresses.
There are clever folks out there figuring out a way around the centralized DNS chokepoint.

Following the tweets on this is like watching a nuclear war without the nukes. Pre-emptive warning strike by side A, massive retaliation by side B.
Our government isn't looking very competent here.

LOL. I was just thinking the exact same thing. That, and also that our government seems to have brought a knife to a gun fight.

True.
The latest is that the hackers have taken down the patent office as well and are currently working on shutting down the FBI. Imho, I think there are other targets that would be more attractive and ethical.

This tweet was interesting, imho.
“Megaupload was taken down w/out SOPA being law. Now imagine what will happen if it passes. The Internet as we know it will end. FIGHT BACK.”

I have to remember that yesterday was a peaceful protest by people that legally petitioned their government.
Today, in retaliation, government did a questionable smackdown on people and 2 companies that AREN'T even here in the US.
And 30 minutes later, got slapped down like the newbs they are.
