Waiting on Perry to take podium any moment! He will endorse Newt!
Thank you, Ohio.
I’m not hurting today. I’m happy. I did most of my hurting earlier when I had to endure the vile attacks on a good man from some of the people on here.
I did my hurting when the voters couldn’t seem to realize that they had a treasure and chose leprechaun gold.
I did my hurting when Governor Perry didn’t get a bounce in the South Carolina polls.
I’m rejoicing today because he bowed out with his integrity intact and because he endorsed Newt who I think has the best chance of beating Obama.
Good for you, my friend! I was worried about you.
Hi oWf, I don’t know if anyone has answered you, but this morning I was listening to the Mike Gallager show, and he had on a pastor who had spoken to Newt Gingrich. He said that Newt admitted his sin—and he called it sin. He said he watched for signs of real repentence—taking full responsibility, not blaming anyone else, recognizing he sinned against God, and that Newt did all that. He believes that he truly is a repentent sinner. He was also very remorseful for everyone he has hurt in his life. Then I heard a clip of Newt saying that he was like an alocoholic—not a drinker, but the behavior. I don’t remember his exact wording, but he needed God, and so he surrendered his will to the Lord’s.
I felt better after hearing that on my way to work this morning. I just thought I would share it with you.
I've gotten a number of answers to my question, but yours was the most convincing.
Many politicians feign conversions of sorts to get votes, so it's good to have multiple sources of people who have actually spoken with Newt and believe he is sincere.
As I said upthread, I have limited time to spend on politics, so I rely on good info here.
Thanks for providing it. :)
I have a lot of conservative Christian friends and family and this info will be valuable to have at the ready.
“Palin will now endorse Newt.”
She pretty much already has - a couple of nights ago on Hannity, she said that if she were a South Carolinian, she’d vote for Newt. And, of course, Todd already did endorse him several days ago.
You are very welcome. :^)
“Bret Baier says he disagrees with previous guest that this endorsement is meaningless. He thinks Newt will get atleast 5-6 pts. because of this”
I think BB’s a good news guy - he always seems fair and ethical.
Thank you for posting the whole interview, llandres. That WAS a great speech. I miss Perry.
“Question: Will Newt now get the Gene Simmons/Ted Nugent/Toby Keith vote?”
Maybe you’re being facetious, but yes, I hope so. All three of them are Patriots.

Amen! As Rush says, Perry is a patriot and a class act ... . I think the timing was just too much off when he had his back surgery and on pain meds and was immediately in debates. Tough .. very tough if you're in pain and the meds mess with your persona. Healing more and waiting it out a month more, I think he could've still entered a bit later this year and had more impact.
I didn't know THE amazing and intrepid hero, Navy Seal Marcus Luttrell, was on his rooting team. Wish he'd been more outspoken, visible and TELEvised on the trail. God bless them both. Rick, you did yourself proud .. at the end, when the memory of your suspension speech and classiness today will linger with good after effects. And you supported the RIGHT man!
Excerpt from Rush today:
"Rick Perry, a lot of people have piled on the guy. I think he's a class act. I have always liked Rick Perry. I'll tell you a story again.
I don't know if I've mentioned this. Yeah, I think I've mentioned this on the air. I was asked to do a fundraiser for a congressional candidate in Texas, and I don't do very many of those.
It happened to be a special occasion, and it happened to be during the time that the Texas governor's race was going on and Kay Bailey Hutchison was opposing Perry at this point in time -- and when the word got out that I was gonna be doing this fundraiser, people called me and said, "Hey, be on the lookout!
Rick Perry's gonna show up; he gonna trying to get in a punch of pictures with you has a gonna trying to make it look like you are endorsing him for a governor run in Texas, and don't... You can't let it happen! You make sure! Don't do it! He's trying to come at you!"
I said, "Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa! Who's behind this? So what if Rick Perry shows up?"
"He's gonna try to use you!"
Okay, so I showed up. I was committed to show up. I got there and, lo and behold, Governor Perry was there -- and simply because I've been told that, I'm a little leery. I don't know him; I'd never met him, and like all of us big-time stars, we are very much concerned about being used. So you're always on guard for that, and he didn't. But he did ask to introduce me. He was an invited guest of the candidate. Everything was classy. I mean, he didn't crash the event."
I lived in Texas for a few years and made some wonderful friends. Texans rock. (So do Missourians - my home, the show-me state :-)
Yes it is the same post... and he gave me permission to use it whenever I choose to...nice of him to do that.... as with the objections some are raising about Newt now. ...this was a good time to get it out there.
I think some Freepers expectations of a politician are way over the line of reality....’Jesus Christ’ is not running for President here... and I would chance saying if he was some would be like the Pharasees and Sadducees in how they see him.
It’s like asking Holllywood stars to prove their fidility before making a movie. There’s little diffenernce between the two as far as how the inner workings operate.
Here’s a good quote that fits I think....
“Democrats always like to brag that their guys are smarter than the opponents.... and Republicans always like to brag that their guys are more moral than the opponents. But if you’re looking for morals in politics you’re looking for bananas in the cheese department”....(Harry Shearer)
Yes, thank you very much Rick!
Impressive video of Perry announcing his withdrawal.....I think that’s the most relaxed I’ve seen him. I loved he said...
” What’s broken in America is not our people, it’s our politics”
Really great how he handled this...and he does seem energized from the whole experience of running. TExas will benefit for that.
You should be happy then. Now his single digits can go to the candidate who can beat Myth.
I don't agree morality is a "huge" issue for most Christians though it's a plus if they happen to adhere to good morals....But the fact Iran's ready to blow us up...which if they do morality isn't going to matter at all and other perilous happenings occurring that IMO there are far bigger issues a candidate better know how to address and make the changes needed to stop the trajectory of this country.......International leaders are jockeying around and threatening another World War....and we're one of their targets...so we just differ on what we see as foremost in a candidate.
Additionally... We are broke...what will morals matter when one can't give their child an education...or their home is in jeopardy of being lost? Not to mention food on the table...15 million on food stamps cannot be sustained much longer....Seniors are concerned of their checks and their heath...again morals won't be playing much in those cases.
It's not that morals aren't important....it's that we have 'bigger problems' then if or not a candidate has 'repented enough' to satisfy a few who seem to set the bar for that beyond the throne room of God...which is what it seems some have done....in 11 years now Newt's been "clear" of that history...so why make more of it than what needs to be?
As I said, and gave you information where a pastor spoke about Newt..and he even referred to others who could attest to that of Newt being a changed man.....with links....your need was apparently to hear more of the same as you seem now to have accepted that yes, Newt has changed.
And, once again, this is not about me and what I 'need.' (how insulting is that??) Please stop trying to make it so.
