Divorce mediator meets with Gingriches today
The Atlanta Journal and The Atlanta Constitution - Thursday, December 16, 1999

Newt Gingrich and Marianne Gingrich will try to reach a divorce settlement today in their first face-to-face meeting since their split.

The couple is scheduled to appear for a court-ordered mediation session in Cobb County. The meeting will be held at the offices of Marianne Gingrich ‘s attorney, John Mayoue.

An agreement today may be a lot to ask, however.

Marianne Gingrich has yet to question under oath her estranged husband’s admitted girlfriend, Callista Bisek. Marianne Gingrich and Mayoue have considered the deposition a key element of their case. Newt Gingrich’s attorney, Randy Evans, says Marianne Gingrich has refused to even discuss a settlement until she questions Bisek.

Last month, a Washington judge ordered Bisek to answer questions under oath for Marianne Gingrich and provide documents related to her affair with Gingrich. The documents include cards, phone records and bank statements dating back to 1995, when Newt Gingrich became speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. Gingrich and Bisek, a scheduler for the House Agriculture Committee, have admitted they’ve been seeing each other for six years.

A judge forced Gingrich to answer 32 questions from his wife’s lawyers. Most were about his finances, but one question asked Gingrich to list any lovers he had besides his wife during their marriage. Another question asked whether his actions as a spouse were consistent with the ‘’family values’’ he espoused as a politician.

GINGRICH SUBMITS ANSWERS, EXCEPT FOR ONE
Macon Telegraph, The (GA) - Thursday, December 9, 1999
Author: The Associated Press
- Newt Gingrich answered all but one of the questions his wife asked as part of their divorce proceeding, the former House speaker’s lawyer said Wednesday.

A Cobb County judge had given Gingrich until Monday to ‘’fully and completely’’ answer questions posed by his estranged wife, Marianne Gingrich .

Gingrich’s lawyer, Randy Evans, wouldn’t say which of the 32 questions Gingrich refused to answer, and he refused to release them.

The questions Gingrich answered include one about whether Gingrich’s actions as a spouse were consistent with the ‘’family values’’ he espoused as a politician and public speaker.

Evans also declined to say whether Gingrich responded to a question that asks him to list any lovers he’s had besides his wife during their 18-year marriage. Most of the questions concerned Gingrich’s finances.
