A pagan mother's challenge to the distribution of donated Bibles at a local school has prompted the Buncombe County Board of Education to reevaluate its policies regarding religious texts. Ginger Strivelli, who practices Witchcraft, a form of Paganism, said she was upset when her 12-year-old son came home from North Windy Ridge intermediate school with a Bible. The Gideons International had delivered several boxes of the sacred books to the school office. The staff allowed interested students to stop by and pick them up. Schools should not be giving out one religion's materials and not others," Strivelli said. According to Strivelli, the principal assured her the school would make available religious texts donated by any group. But when Strivelli showed up at the school with pagan spell books, she was turned away. "Buncombe County School officials are currently reviewing relevant policies and practices with school board attorneys," the district announced in a written statement. "During this review period, no school in the system will be accepting donations of materials that could be viewed as advocating a particular religion or belief." The school board is expected to address the issue at its next meeting Feb. 2. According to legal experts, the First Amendment gives public schools two clear choices when it comes to the distribution of religious texts. "You can either open your public school up to all religious material, or you can say no religious material," Michael Broyde, a professor and senior fellow at Emory University's Center for the Study of Law and Religion said. "You can't say, 'You can distribute religious material, but only from the good mainstream faiths.'"

“But when Strivelli showed up at the school with pagan spell books, she was turned away.”
Because making potions and drinking them or making others drink them is dangerous.
This is common sense.
Before a text comes a religion.
The offended religionist should have her religion re-evaluated, THEN (re) evaluate the religionist.
Only then can qualified evaluation(s) of which and whom might be truncated be determined.
Any school boy that would want to hook up with cute witch chick, thinking she would have looser morals, should take a look at the mom to see what she’ll look like in 20 years. It might make them think twice!
If Ginger Strivelli’s son had brought home a Koran, I’m sure she would have smiled approvingly on the schools wonderful sense of diversity and it’s celebration of multiculturalism.
Like many self-identified Wiccans/Pagans/etc., this woman fits the profile of unattractive, overweight attention- whore...
It could've supplied the outhouse with toilet paper for a month!
Or blotted a lot of bacon...
She’s an anti-Christian. Let’s call it what it is.
I have never read a spell book, did it take you very long, what else was in it??? My teacher always told me I could use more time with my spell book. Anyway you may be correct: http://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DJfeMlqS1gZU&sa=X&ei=2CMYT7GsFNDXtwfktMGcCw&ved=0CFIQuAIwBQ&usg=AFQjCNHZgWVw7tclgpcWR6-0xOjieBgoCw
I think they should consider themselves fortunate they were challenged by a local crack-pot from some fringe "religion", as opposed to having to deal with a bunch of well organized, lawyered-up, CAIR representatives showing up with a thousand copies of the Koran.
I haven’t read one either, but I know pagan’s are into herbs... so I Googled.
Looks like there ARE potions that involve ingesting stuff.
So you could conceivably have hormonal, unrequited teenage girls (or boys) cooking up potions and giving them to other students for various “purposes.”
True
Witches really are ugly.
Tell that to Glinda.
It is the obligation of the parents not the school to provide religious base for their children.
Any good school would have available in their library any religious text from the multiple versions of the Holy Bible to the Torah, Koran, and even Satanism.
If the reporting is accurate, I gotta go with the witch on this one.
It’s never was about a separation of Church and State. It was that the Federal Constitution demands that No national religion be adopted. States were different until they took FEDERAL MONEY.
This being a state issue NC Constitution:
Sec. 13. Religious liberty.
All persons have a natural and inalienable right to worship Almighty God according to the dictates of their own consciences, and no human authority shall, in any case whatever, control or interfere with the rights of conscience.
Again, this is a matter for parents not government.
