One of my nephews brought a book of Magic Eye images to a family gathering. Magic Eye images look like ordinary two-dimensional patterns, but when viewed in a certain way, the flat surface appears three-dimensional.
We took turns trying to train our eyes to make the three-dimensional image pop out. One family member had trouble seeing the extra dimension. Several times I noticed he had the book open, looking at it from all different distances and directions. But even though he couldnt see the hidden image, he believed it was there because others had seen it.
His persistence made me think about the importance of having the same tenacity in matters of faith. The danger for those who doubt is that they stop looking for God because they believe He cant be found. Moses warned the Israelites that future generations would wander from God. He promised, however, that those who seek God with all their heart and soul will find Him (Deut. 4:29). The book of Hebrews confirms that God rewards those who diligently seek Him (11:6).
If you struggle to believe, remember: Just because you dont see God doesnt mean He doesnt exist. He promises to be found by those who seek Him.
Read: Hebrews 11:1-10

If passed, the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2011 would be a huge win for Second Amendment advocates, giving a gut punch to many state and municipal gun control efforts.
Originally introduced this past February by Rep. Cliff Stearns (R- FL) and Heath Shuler (D-NC), The Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act now has 241 co-sponsors in the House, making its passage there likely.
A companion bill is soon to be launched in the Senate, and if it gets enough Democrat support to avoid a filibuster, it would probably pass there too.
The bill, H.R. 822, essentially says: If Florida awards you a concealed carry permit, every other state has to honor it, with narrow exceptions. This will greatly lessen may issue politics and bureaucratic obstructionism across the country when it comes to gun rights.

Subject: Louis Zamperini is coming to San Francisco this weekend!
Who is Louis Zamperini?
He is the former Olympian and WW2 veteran featured in Laura Hillebrands (if that name sounds familiar, she also authored Seabiscuit) #1 NYT Best Seller Unbroken.
Louis grew up in California in the 1920s, and emerged as one of the greatest runners America had ever seen, competing at the 1936 Berlin Olympics (where he met Adolf Hitler, broke a world record, and roomed with Jesse Owens). On a May afternoon in 1943, Louis joined the Army Air Corps as a bombardier on a B-24 flying out of Hawaii, and was 1 of only 3 members of an 11-man crew to survive a crash in the Pacific. After drifting for 47 days and 2,000 milesenduring starvation and desperate thirst, sharks that leapt aboard the raft trying to drag them off, a machine-gun attack from a Japanese bomber, and a typhoon with waves some forty feet highthey were captured by the Japanese and spent 25 months in POW camps Ofuna, Omori, and Naoetsu. While only 1 in 100 American captured in Europe died, nearly 1 in 3 perished in Japanese captivity. Louis survives this brutal experience, returns home in October 1945, and is awarded the Air Medal, the Purple Heart, and Philippine Liberation Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal, and the American Campaign Medal with battle stars.
Like most returning soldiers, Zamperini had a difficult re-entry, and struggled with PTSD, alcoholism, flashbacks, and nightmares. In the fall of 1949 at a Billy Graham crusade, Louis becomes a Christian and turns his life around, even returning in 1950 to Japan as a missionary. He meets several of his former prison guards, embracing many of them and even pleaded for clemency on their behalf. In 1998, on his 81st birthday, Zamperini ran a 1-kilometer leg of the Olympic torch run in Japan for the Nagano Winter Olympics.
This weekend, Louis will be guest speaking at Menlo Park Presbyterian Church on 1/21 and 1/22. If youre interested, more info here: http://mppc.org/unbroken

Your father could have a movie star with those looks...just saying...:)
This year, 2012, both Groundhog Day and the State of the Union address will occur on the same day.
This is an ironic juxtaposition of events.
One involves a meaningless ritual in which we look to an insignificant creature of little intelligence for prognostication.
The other involves a groundhog.
