You know who this benefits?
Marianne Gingrich has said she could end her ex-husbands career with a single interview. Earlier this week, she sat before ABCNEWS cameras, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned. She spoke to ABCNEWS reporter Brian Ross for two hours. Her explosive revelations are set to rock the campaign. But now a civil war has erupted inside of the network, an insider claims, on exactly when the confession will air!
Just a little more late intrigue for a race thats already in flux from Newts post-debate surge, Palins quasi-endorsement, Santorums possible victory in Iowa (the official results will be announced tomorrow morning), Perrys uncertain status vis-a-vis calls for him to drop out, and yet another debate tomorrow night. Drudge says the interviews tentatively set to air Monday, after the vote in South Carolina, but reporters from Politico and the NYT are hearing itll air tomorrow, presumably before the debate. Im surprised his ex didnt insist that it be broadcast ASAP. If shes coming clean now after years of silence, just as hes readying his last stand against Romney, shes obviously doing it to try to take him out. If you were her, wouldnt you want it to drop before the primary?
Actually, she hasnt been completely silent. Go read the Esquire piece from 2010 that everyone will be murmuring about until this thing finally airs. Quote:
Back in the 1990s, she told a reporter she could end her husbands career with a single interview. She held her tongue all through the affair and the divorce and even through the annulment Gingrich requested from the Catholic Church two years later, trying to erase their shared past. Now she sits quietly for a moment, ignoring her eggs, trying to decide how far she wants to go.
Heres the most sensational bit, after she found out about Gingrichs new mistress:
She kind of guessed it, of course. Women usually do. But did she know the woman was in her apartment, eating off her plates, sleeping in her bed?She called a minister they both trusted. He came over to the house the next day and worked with them the whole weekend, but Gingrich just kept saying she was a Jaguar and all he wanted was a Chevrolet. I cant handle a Jaguar right now. He said that many times. All I want is a Chevrolet.
He asked her to just tolerate the affair, an offer she refused.
Hed just returned from Erie, Pennsylvania, where hed given a speech full of high sentiments about compassion and family values.
The next night, they sat talking out on their back patio in Georgia. She said, How do you give that speech and do what youre doing?
It doesnt matter what I do, he answered. People need to hear what I have to say. Theres no one else who can say what I can say. It doesnt matter what I live.
If her interview runs along those lines Gingrichian egomania and hypocrisy but nothing criminal or lurid I dont know how much itll change things. You never know what information voters have and havent fully assimilated about a candidate, but Newts values problems have been public knowledge long enough that I take it theyre already mostly priced into his stock. Hes going to say shes a disgruntled ex whos making things up and, in any case, that hes found redemption in his faith since the divorce. Unless shes got a bombshell shes ready to drop, how many voters thinking of voting for him at this point will really think twice?
Exit question: If the interview does air tomorrow, how hard will Santorum and Romney go after him at the debate over it? Santorums desperate to have social conservatives unite behind him, but this is an awfully messy attack to try with the, er, Chevrolet sitting in the audience in front of him.
Why would anyone ever watch a soap opera when politics is so much more entertaining!
Kind of like "The Picture of Dorian Grey." Bill is Dorian, Hillary is the picture.
oh my....
Very well said.
I read that interview a few weeks ago online. Its been all over the place. Newt already said he has done things he regrets and has asked God for forgiveness. There’s not much else to do about it. Marianne Gingrich does not have anything devastating to say about Newt. Compared to Clinton he’s a choir boy.
You missed the Karen Santorum story this week, I take it.
Thankfully Free Republic found it repulsive and full of lies that they pulled it. Too bad for you. You wanted that to go viral so much.....hahaha. Next time liberal.
The LSM prob. has the interviews lined up as a contingency plan.
BTW - I wasn’t aware that ABC hired Connie Chung. :)
Huh? You mean because Gingrich is a big government socialist I have to vote for him?

You are the last person to have a clue. I abhored the Santorum story. You were so busy dancing on Newt’s grave tonight, and singing about the media political assassination attempt against him, that you had to go into your version of Santorum’s purity, your usual full throated warble that goes something like this, “thank goodness Santorum has no dirt for anyone to worry with”. LOL!
The media went after Karen Santorum this week. I brought it to your attention. If media thought Santorum had a prayer, that very story would be wall to wall. He doesn’t have a chance so they sit on it. So it’s best for us to wise up and shut up about the too-pure-for-school crap. The media does not and will not care whether anything is true and accurate.
I am saying it again because you are so dense. Santorum has more delegates. Got more votes. Beat Newt in two states and has better values than Newt. Need I say more?
Arlen Spector.
Arlen Spector.
Wow. That was surprising. I voted for Arlen many times. So what. He did great getting us Supreme Court members. Rubio has done great voting for gays in the military. Go Santorum.
” Need I say more? “
Just say, it takes over 2000 for the nomination and 7 is a start, proving in the end that he will certainly secure a place in the “also ran” column, in the history books.
Were I Newt Gingrich I would stick with the “pity the poor woman and I’m so sorry I hurt her to make her so bitter still after all these years”
and I would make sure the public and Mitt Romney and Santorum know the daughters who support him and don’t support all their mom’s allegations are given plenty of camera time
then just be humble and stay on message and continue to attack Romney’s war machine that cannot stand on Romney’s record...unlike Newt’s...and which lives by personal destruction and liberal GOP proxies...and the media who ignored Clinton’s crap and never vetted Obama yet are now obsessed with a 20 year old failed marriage?
The momentum is with Newt and this will cause the mods to have to give him airtime...which suits him as a rule....
I say this as a man with an ex wife...a beautiful but unhinged woman who left me for an older rich man...several husbands ago for her..and she did me a favor....though I paid huge child support so she would facilitate my seeing my girls..divorce ain’t fair
not as just another freepers who left his ex bitter
for the record
so unless Marianne has something really salacious...it’s not much impact to me...
the Networks are running this quick to try to stop Newt...and queer Mitt pimps like Drudge are their Igors
that should tell Newt haters here something...if they can see past their noses
Personally the new information on Newt that bothered me more today was the WSJ piece on his early academic career. I hadn't realized he'd been denied tenure, nor that with minimal experience he proposed himself as department head and even as college president. Obama will be impressed. Newt then described himself as a "futurist" - the Tofflers already had him hooked. And I was shocked to learn that our history professor really wanted to teach environmental studies. Gore will be impressed.
Tomorrow will be an interesting day. At 8:15 CST the Iowa GOP will announce their certified caucus results. What leaks there have been suggest Santorum will be crowned then winner, leaving Mitt only the winner of (one of) his home state(s). This season being the "boring" candidate may prove to be a good thing. If all the Democrats can find to attack are the issues we'll win.
When a fireman is saving you from a burning building, you don’t care what his ex-wife thinks of him. We are in the same sort of situation with Newt.
That's the one thing in his past we've all seen. He didn't write ANYTHING while President of the Harvard Law Review. I presume that fact was then unprecedented and I hope, it hasn't been equaled since. Obama won that position the first year they considered affirmative action as part of the decision process. Atlas had at least some of the goods on him back in 2008.
Wolf, wolf, wolf.
Pin’s a droppin.
“Palin couldnt be VP because she could see Russia from ALASKA.”
Save your money and by a brain. You are an idiot.
