A tax haven is defined as anyplace thar has lower taxes than where you live. Sweden is a tax haven to Norwegians.

Appears to me ABC is trying to shape the issues for the campaign. Is the Republican candidate an evil capitalist or a divorced cheater in the party of family values? The focus needs to remain on the Obama economy....
Yeah but unless you violate the US tax laws putting your money in the Caymens simply means that you get the pleasure of paying taxes both under Caymen Island laws and US law. It’s only if you cheat on your taxes that your taxes are lower. Some people put their money in the Caymens and then neglect to list the earnings on their US return. It’s easier to get away with that if it’s overseas because the feds can’t easily monitor compliance. But it’s still illegal. I assume that Romney doesn’t do that and assuming he doesn’t I don’t think the Caymens should be an issue.
Lol, OK!
I thought we conservatives were capitalists? And stood for moral values?
You can dislike Romney for a lot of reasons, but lets not throw our capitalism away with the bath water.
The Caymans have no personal income tax.
The Caymans have no personal income tax.
Yes, but if they did, you’d need to pay it. And you still need to pay US taxes, even though the money was earned in the Caymens. You simply get to deduct what you paid the Caymens from your US tax bill.
Nice deflection EyeGuy but it was you who suggested that you skirt the law every way possible to avoid taxes.
I stand by my comment to you.
There is no “deflection” whatsoever. Not in the least.
You can stubbornly “stand by” your ignorance or misreading of my postion all you want.
Here is the original comment:
“The Commies dont like it when the affluent find ways to defeat their thieving money traps.”
The verb “defeat” does not mean “skirting the law”. There is no evidence in the source article that Romney is doing anything but legally avoiding taxation. If not, he and the thousands of other Americans utilizing off-shore tax havens, should be prosecuted.
Reporting Global income is on the honor system, the point is do we trust Mittwitt to do thar. Without rax returns its less likely we can.

I didn’t put down Captitalism in any way. In fact, a much as I despise Mitt, I was sort of defending him. I doubt he committed tax evasion, and I assume whatever tax avoidance schemes he might be using the Caymans for is probably legal.
However, the statement that he would have paid the same tax rate, with or without the Cayman Islands accounts sound like bull. It really doesn’t make sense to put funds in such accounts, unless you are trying to avoid taxes or hid illicit funds.
There is nothing wrong with legally avoiding taxes, but if it is disovered that Mitt put millions offshore so he could pay “15%” on his millions, it will LOOK bad politically.
At any rate, my problem with Mitt is not any offshore tax shelters, but the fact that he is a pro-abortion, anti-gun, pro-illegal, pro-socialized medicine, huge government Socialist, who pretended to change his positions on these issues (except socialized Medicine, he still defends Obamacar....I mean RomneyCare), just in time for the 2008 GOP primary season.
If that’s what you mean than “defeat” is not needed. He’s paying the taxes he’s suppose to pay. End of story.
