From the Diaries
As the Recall Walker effort submitted their signatures to the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board today (claiming 1 million signatures), Wisconsinites deserve a serious analysis of this Big Labor, big money game to force a recall election on the people of this state. We will be shocked at what is yet to come. Evidence is already mounting to suggest that Big Labor has used underhanded, fraudulent and illegal tactics to pad their petition numbers. Major national labor organizations have dumped millions into Wisconsin to stop Governor Walkers reforms and with the integrity of these petitions being questioned; they have shown their true colors
The Recall Walker effort must be scrutinized to maintain any shred of confidence in the electoral system. There have been numerous reports of major deficiencies with Wisconsins recall process and union bosses seem to have taken full advantage and then some. Here are just a few of the many existing reports of apparent fraud in the recall effort. As we move through the process, these will prove to be just the tip of the iceberg.
Perhaps the most egregious example was discovered when one man admitted signing a recall petition 80 times because he thought President George W. Bush cheated in the 2000 election. He seemed to have no problem rationalizing his abuse of the process and the petition carriers were happy to let him do it. It wasnt just one bad apple that signed multiple times. Liberal advocacy group One Wisconsin Now actively encouraged people to sign recall petitions more than once. Presumably, many other opponents of Governor Walker followed One Wisconsin Nows advice in signing multiple times. This tactic could affect thousands of signatures.

Well they can only vote once. Oh, wait, that would be if Voter ID was enforced.
The recall documents were created largely in Madison and on the east side of Milwaukee. Out-state does not share the same fervor as those two liberal strongholds.
Still, the expectation is that the media buys during the recall runup will far exceed the 2008 election.
BEst thing in the long run might be, sad to say, is for the governor to be recalled. A liberal comes in and the entire state goes bankrupt.
Somebody needs to sue. All it will take is a carefully documented list of petition abuses to provide evidence that the whole petition is irreparably tainted and must be thrown out. Then, a judge who isn’t corrupt must hear the case. (Good luck with that in Wisconsin.)
Here is the relevant section from a PDF I downloaded from the State of Wisconsin:
Circulation Time Period
A recall petition may be circulated after filing the Campaign Registration Statement (EB-1).
1. The petition to recall any officeholder must be filed no later than 5:00 p.m. on the 60th day after registration.
After the petition has been offered for filing, no name may be added or removed.
2. Only signatures dated within the 60-day circulation period may be counted.
Okay. That’s a little too nit-picky / loop-holey for my taste. It’s the kind of thing that makes people roll their eyes.
I still prefer the angle of pursuing a lawsuit by demonstrating the out-and-out corruption of the signature process. Win or lose, people notice.
Never let the enemy hold you to standards to which they do not hold themselves.
Good point!
