Mitt & Mop - Was Mike Huckabee right about Mitt Romney?
The American Spectator ^ | January 18, 2012 | Aaron Goldstein

Posted on 01/18/2012 11:36:27 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

When Newt Gingrich criticized Mitt Romney's record at Bain Capital, he raised the ire of many conservatives and may have unwittingly mobilized a Republican rank and file now prepared to bestow Romney with the GOP nomination on a silver platter.

Rush Limbaugh called Gingrich's criticisms "out of bounds for those who value the free market." Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was even blunter when he said, "What the hell are you doing, Newt? I expect this from Saul Alinsky!" But perhaps the most interesting defense of Romney came from Mike Huckabee, who took aim at both Gingrich and Texas Governor Rick Perry who famously accused Romney of practicing "vulture capitalism." Huckabee said, "It's surprising to see so many Republicans embrace that left-wing argument against capitalism." Yet in 2008, it was Huckabee who in a campaign ad aimed at Romney said, "I believe most Americans want their next President to remind them of the guy they work with, not the guy who laid them off."

Given that Romney has spent the vast majority of his professional life in the private sector and touts that experience in his bid for the White House, it seems strange that any criticism of that record from his Republican rivals is not only off limits but the equivalent of criticizing free enterprise itself. It is a curious line of argument when you consider that Bain Capital was the recipient of generous government grants, subsidies, and tax breaks and profited handsomely regardless of whether the companies in which it invested prospered or went into bankruptcy. Any business in which one can reap the rewards without suffering the consequences of risk can hardly be characterized as engaging in free enterprise.

Well, if Romney can't do a better job .......

This emptiest of the GOP empty suits must be crushed.

If nominated he will make the ‘06 and ‘08 elections look like good times. In the general he would carry Utah I suppose.

We all keep saying that but I don't think Romney can be stopped. He seems to have been planning his run for many years, and quite a plan it is. He is well funded, organized and determined to get the nomination. Like you I don't like it, but I pretty sure he'll get his way.

Huckabee sounding like Ron Paul:

December 17, 2007 The Huckabee Hustle By Selwyn Duke
http://www.americanthinker.com/2007/12/the_huckabee_hustle.html

Pete Wehner at NRO took issue with the first two paragraphs of a Huckabee essay in Foreign Affairs magazine, particularly the claim by Huckabee that we’re too mean around the world; we’re trying to dominate the world, and we need to be more like a top high school student, modest about our abilities and achievements, generous, and then we will be loved. If we keep dominating people, we’ll be despised, and “the Bush administration’s arrogant and bunker mentality has been counterproductive at home and abroad.”

This is the thing that bothers me about Newt too. They’re in love with their voices and their ability to see the “big picture” and have no grounding in a strong ideology - and — LIKE PERRY does.

People like Huck and Newt are prone to favor big government solutions.

Long before Newt sat down on that couch with Pelosi:

2007

Mike “God is Green” Huckabee:

“Climate change has emerged as a significant issue in the presidential campaign, and many of the candidates, Republican and Democratic alike, have sought to seize the environmentalist mantle. But only Republican former Gov. Mike Huckabee of Arkansas otherwise considered among the more conservative candidates in the race has explicitly aligned himself with the [GREEN] creation care movement.” - Richard Cizik - 11/06/2007 “God is Green” http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21656644/

“Liars for Jesus and Liars for Science” looking to shear the sheep in the Cult of Global warming. Isn’t that special?

From Gribbit: “The conclusions of the IPCC Summary Report were determined before the study even began. The idea was to make it the “Final Word” on global climate change. The reason for making it the “Final Word” was that by using that terminology, they had hoped that the public would take their bait hook, line, and sinker and they could get the political changes that they want. Yes I said political changes.” See more Gribbit Tidbits

“.. Mr. Cizik said he had a “conversion” on climate change so profound in Oxford that he likened it to an “altar call,” when nonbelievers accept Jesus as their savior. Mr. Cizik recently bought a Toyota Prius, a hybrid vehicle. “

<>

Oct. 2006

“..Cizik dates his “conversion” to 2002, when evangelical left activist Jim Ball of the “What Would Jesus Drive” anti-SUV campaign “dragged” him to Oxford, England, for a global warming summit featuring scientist and Christian thinker John Houghton. “I had, as John Wesley would say, a ‘warming of my heart,’ Cizik recalls. “A conversion to a cause which I believe every Christian should be committed to.”

After his Oxford conversion, Cizik returned home, sold his gas guzzler, bought a Prius, and renewed his interest in recycling. He notes that evangelicals comprise 40-50 percent of the “Republican base” and Republican politicians, who “have stymied action on climate change, will “have to listen” if evangelicals become as passionate as Cizik is about climate change.

Promoters of The Great Warming are hoping that other evangelicals will have dramatic conversions to the global warming cause.like Cizik. No doubt, many of these new enthusiasts for the planet are full of passionate sincerity. But some seem to see acceptance of disastrous scenarios of global warming, fueled exclusively by human activity, as almost an article of faith, transcending need for logical argument. For them, it has become intrinsically a struggle between noble friends of the earth and wicked allies of the fossil fuels industry. They have adopted climate activism as a new crusade.

Evangelicals are more famous, or notorious, for preaching about the impending End Times. At least that old kind of preaching pointed listeners towards repentance...and God. This new mode of climate revivalism points evangelicals towards a very differently kind of imagined apocalypse, in which the solution is not divine intervention but increased government regulation, reduced standards of living, diminished national sovereignty, and enhanced powers for international bureaucracies. That Old Time Religion now looks more appealing, because it involves God.
