"Senator Dodd", CEO of MPAA, Calls iBlackout a "Stunt", "Dangerous"
MPAA Press Release ^ | 01/17/2012 | Chris Dodd

Posted on 01/18/2012 7:20:47 AM PST by Glenn

The following is a statement by Senator Chris Dodd, Chairman and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America, Inc. (MPAA) on the so- called “Blackout Day” protesting anti-piracy legislation:

“Only days after the White House and chief sponsors of the legislation responded to the major concern expressed by opponents and then called for all parties to work cooperatively together, some technology business interests are resorting to stunts that punish their users or turn them into their corporate pawns, rather than coming to the table to find solutions to a problem that all now seem toagree is very real and damaging.

It is an irresponsible response and a disservice to people who rely on them for information and usetheir services. It is also an abuse of power given the freedoms these companies enjoy in the marketplace today. It’s a dangerous and troubling development when the platforms that serve as gateways to information intentionally skew the facts to incite their users in order to further their corporate interests.

A so-called “blackout” is yet another gimmick, albeit a dangerous one, designed to punish elected and administration officials who are working diligently to protect American jobs from foreign criminals.

It is our hope that the White House and the Congress will call on those who intend to stage this “blackout” to stop the hyperbole and PR stunts and engage in meaningful efforts to combat piracy.”

I didn't realize this was where Dodd wound up.

He is still a spin-master. My favorite spin:

designed to punish elected and administration officials who are working diligently to protect American jobs from foreign criminals

Christopher Dodd should be serving time in federal PMITA prison right now.

Does that mean his buddy Barney will soon become CEO of the “Film Actors Guild”?

“A so-called “blackout” is yet another gimmick, albeit a dangerous one,”

I’m confused about how this worthless little dumbass concludes that the blacking out of Wikipedia and Demonoid - and a little black box over “Google” - is dangerous.

Somehow it must be I guess, because the moron says it twice.

I think the powers that be are starting to discover just how powerful the internet can be when it chooses to flex its muscle. I wouldn’t be surprised if they quickly moved to ban these types of online protests by fining major content providers if they take down their sites as part of a protest.

Like all Democrats, when Dodd says "work cooperatively together" he means "bend over and take it".

FUCD.

Hey Dodd? SOPA has nothing to do with piracy or copyright theft – it’s about the formal effort to mimic Communist China’s system of Internet censorship, and expand governmental control over it’s users, like the subservient peoples in the oppressed world.

It's really funny how quiet the loudmouth celebrity contingent is on this issue.

Nary a word about 1st Amendment rights, or the horrors of censorship.

Silence. Brought to you by declining movie receipts and record sales.

Crushing the First Amendment isn't that bad, if it allows them to have a bigger pool at mansion number four.

And don’t think Obama cares about your right to free speech and expression online, he’s only opposed to the legislation because his poll numbers are tanking in an election year.

Hey Dodd! It's "their services" like you said. "They", the companies involved, have every right to turn off "their" services whenever "they" want!

And THAT is the point of the protest. "They" are in control of "their" services. NOT YOU!

We don’t need SOPA/PIPA, we’ve already god the Digital Millenium Copyright Act of 1998 that covers piracy and theft of copyrighted material online.

Hopefully, homowood will be slapped back into the sewer where they have been for the last 20 years. This just demonstrates the influence these degenerates have on internet freedom.
