GREENVILLE, S.C. Gov. Rick Perry's presidential bid came full circle Tuesday when he returned to the Response, the same type of Christian prayer gathering that he hosted to much fanfare in August.
But much has changed since Perry drew more than 30,000 believers to Houston's Reliant Stadium shortly before announcing his presidential campaign.
Several of the South Carolinians who heard the "call to prayer for a nation in crisis" on Tuesday said they don't see Perry as the answer to those prayers.
"I really like Perry, but he just stepped on himself too often. ... He really cut his own throat," said Walter Itin, who is considering voting for either Newt Gingrich or Rick Santorum in Saturday's Republican primary.

Perry gets better each time he comes out. I rather liked what I saw last night.
If the Perry I saw last night had been there from the first, he’d be doing a lot better.
I didn’t like him from the beginning because of his remarks, before the campaign season began, about Arizona’s law concerning illegals. And I didn’t like his position early in the campaign opposing the fence on the border. He has since modified his position, and he has tightened up his arguments. He gets better all the time.
Right now he is in a race to be not in last place. Someone needs to drop out after South Carolina, and he needs to not be last. Thats his challenge. He’s not my favorite for several reasons but he’s a giant compared to Obama.
"He coulda been a contender."
Perry’s coming in dead last in single digits. There is no doubt, imho.
Ironic that the Arkansas 10 1/2 year gov garnered 30% in SC last time. BUT 10 1/2 year Texas gov Perry will be lucky to garner even 1/5 of Huck’s tally in ‘08.
And Huck did his run with basically NO money versus Perry’s $30 mil including PAC $$$. Goes to show how bad a candidate Perry is. Period.
Perry is still the best of all that are running.
Perry is no polititian, that make him the best qualified.
His record as Govenor of Texas is the kind of record we need in Washington.
If we, as voters, keep electing politians, we will continue to dig our national debt problems even deeper!
I like a lot about Perry, but he simply does not have what it takes to hit in the big leagues.
Instead of embracing him they have chosen two Catholics and a Mormon to be their leaders, just like they chose a muslim last election.
I believe we will see 4 more years of Obama but it wont matter. I believe this is certainly judgment on not just America but on what they call "evangelical" Christians. God built a country using them and he will bring it down because of them.
By the way, for those who think Newt can win, consider the 4 candidates you all were behind before Newt came to the front of the pack. None of them won and neither will Newt. This will be between who it was supposed to be between from the beginning, Mitt and Obama. The Mormon and the Muslim.
I for one should Perry drop out will vote for Ron Paul because he honestly believes what he says. Perry also does and so does Santorum (he just likes to spend). Newt and Mitt say what they need to. If it wasn't Palin it was Bachmann if it wasn't Bachmann it was Cain if it wasn't Cain it was Newt. That speaks to the unsteady character of the christian conservative voter, not the candidate or candidates.
