If he refuses and thus wins the nomination without a full vetting now, he will receive a full vetting during the general election, like it or not, and his margin of defeat will make McCain’s flaccid effort look strong.

If he actually does refuse to bring them out now, and he goes on to win, you can bet the farm that somehow, those tax returns will "mysteriously appear", particularly if they can give some advantage to Bambi.

I do think that's an advantage to those who are still in the race, they can keep bringing this up and throw some major doubt on Romney's ability to handle the coming billion dollar scorched earth negative ad show.
