There is a similar situation in Ayn Rand’s [often overlooked because everyone thinks of “Atlas Shrugged”] first novel, “We The Living”.
In some ways it’s her most “accessible” book....
I hear a lot of people who should know better say this today: How much money does he/she really need? My response is consistent: It’s none of our dang business, if that money was earned legally, how much anyone has. I do not envy success - I know I am too lazy to ever be rich on my own merit, and I live with that quite peacefully.
