You JediJones, nailed the real issue that no one wants to admit about Bain and Romney's part in this type of practice. There's a vast difference between a company failing on its own and one that fails after being looted by predators such as Romney and Company.

I don't want to get bogged down in this discussion on this point, but Newt was dead on point with what he said but the establishment republicans couldn't handle the truth and trashed Newt.

My opinion is that if the voting public listens closely to what Newt is saying, he will prevail and be not only or nominee, but also next president of the United States.

This battle is part of a larger discussion of, in Henry Manne’s phrase, “the market for corporate control.” The tax code is set to over lever firms, which require increases in earnings to go toward debt payments instead of research and development, expansion, and other things that build the firm. What could we change to generate different outcomes? That’s exactly right. Right after this goes on for a few years, you’ve starved your firm of human and operating capital. Five years later, when the private equity leaves, the company will collapse — you can’t starve a company for that long. This is what the history of private equity shows. What I’d like to see Mitt Romney do is to show an example of a buyout that went well. The only success stories he’s talking about on any level are venture capital investments — Staples and Sports Authority. Personally I like venture capital, I think it provides a lot of value, but that’s not what he did mostly, and that’s not what these takeovers are about. The big fix I’d encourage is an end to interest-tax deducibility for leveraged buyouts. The tax system encourages companies to borrow as much as they can. For certain industries, like telecom, these deductions might make a lot of sense. But it was never intended for financing leveraged buyouts. If you put a cap on this you would find buyouts and private equity firms that were much more focused on building companies.

Looks like Mitt is playing fast and lose with the tax code and loading up companies he supposedly is helping with so much debt they fall under their own weight after Bain is through looting them.

You won’t find a group more eager to get out of Iraq and Afghanistan than members of the U.S. Military.

But we have to do it the right way with the “iron-hand oversight after the fact to make sure this does not happen again.” as you put it.

And the “peace talks” are just the tip of the iceberg in this fiasco.

In order to get the Taliban to agree to set up an office in Qatar to begin these peace talks...the Obama administration agreed to their demands that we let several high value targets to go free from Gitmo.

I’m at a loss for words to say what I feel over this.

And this is where I’m torn.

As a soldier it’s unprofessional and doesn’t do us any good in a day and age where the media is already looking for any little thing they can to make us out to be knuckle dragging barbarians. Heard some talking head the other day trying to link this back to the actions at Abu Ghraib.

As a human being who has witnessed atrocities by the people we have fought in Somalia...Iraq and now Afghanistan...I think it’s a dead terrorist getting about what he deserves.

I think money, organization, pre-planning and a host of other issues are haunting Newt.

You are right and it is not only Newt that has shown a lack of organization and a grassroots organization. GOP candidates fail to get on some primary ballots

If some of these candidates fail to comply with state requirements to get on the ballot, then how serious are they about running for President and can they really run a national campaign against Obama?

Personally, I think that a number of the candidates never thought they were going to get the nomination and were in the race for various personal reasons. There is no excuse for Newt, Perry, Santorum, Huntsman, and Bachmann not to be on the VA ballot. Santorum, Bachmann, and Huntsman never even made an attempt at gathering signatures and submitting a petition to get on the ballot.

Yes, we are all well to be wise about the demise of the U. S. Constitution if the Republican works well with this bunch of Democrats that would pass an unconstitutional bill at face value such as the health care bill where the U. S. Constitution arguments against it aren’t heard in the public arena...

Problem is talking or writing about abuses to the Constitution is less that exciting when done by most. It takes a Rush or Steyn to get that message across in most mediums.

(Did I just say the obvious, or is the media leaving out this point?...)

And what should concern us even more is that while he’s consolidating his own power...he’s knee capping the military and it’s ability to protect this country and fulfill our obligations to allies do help in their defense...at a time when the wolves are sharpening their claws.

Oh, I understand the unprofessional aspect of this but I’ll give it a pass during a shooting war and in light of the past actions our enemies have exhibited.

And, I could care less what the anti-war crowd, including a media/press that shows bias towards our enemies, wants to complain about.

I wasn’t that upset with Abu Ghraib either. The military handled that situation well from what I read so outside second guessers can once again get over it and live with it. Their views are not worth the substance used on those dead Taliban soldiers.

Normall I wouldn’t either...but we’ve got people in office right now that believe we are the epitome of all that is wrong with America...that think all of us are just like that group of thugs from 2nd ID that were murdering innocent civilians and collecting body parts.

That we all live to piss on the Taliban (yeah yeah I know :D)

And they are in a position..by their actions and their deeds to break us and teach us a lesson.

And they are doing it.

My thoughts on whether they should be punished for this and how the DoD is handling it are mixed. I’m torn between my feelings as a professional soldier...and as a human being who has seen the “unspeakable cruelties from a cruel and primitive people.” in now three different countries.

As someone who has served in a war, I find the hypocrisy so thick you could cut it with a knife. The idea that we are "desecrating" the bodies of these animals who have killed innocent men, women and children, filmed the decapitation of prisoners, many of them non-combatants, and oppressed women is ludicrous. Desecration is the act of depriving something of its sacred character, or the disrespectful or contemptuous treatment of that which is held to be sacred or holy by a group or individual. Why is urinating on a savage enemy desceration?

This is the same sort of liberal reasoning that led us to give OBL a Muslim funeral including bathing the body, wrapping it a clean sheet, and saying Muslim prayers before dumping it into the sea. All that was lacking was a 21 gun salute. This doesn't enhance our country's image. It makes us look weak and encourages the enemy.

These men should be given non-judicial punishment, especially the idiot who recorded it and leaked it. The piling on by Hillary and Panetta is inappropriate command influence. If anyone thinks that we have ever played by the Marquis of Queensbury rules when it comes to kill or be killed has never been in combat, especially against a fanatical enemy. The idea that we must treat the bodies of these bastards with respect is laughable and sad at the same time.

The Paris Peace talks gave the US enough cover to get out of Dodge. At the time, 1973, with Nixon just beginning his 2nd term, the thinking was if the NVA moved into South Vietnam we would bomb the piss out of them. However Watergate led to a democrat sweep of Congress and Nixon was sent packing.

When the NVA made their move Congress was not going to lift a finger to support South Vietnam.
