This is beyond being stupid. The triangle is to let drivers see them, so they don’t run up on them especially in the dark.
It is being done for safety, and protection of their horses.
And, before anyone starts about “religious freedom” this has nothing to do with that. I’ve seen what a car can do to a horse, and it’s ugly, very ugly, and God’s noble creature doesn’t deserve to die like that.
“Ive seen what a car can do to a horse, and its ugly, very ugly...”
I’ve seen what happens to people who accidently kill someone in an auto accident and that’s not very pretty either. If these guys won’t do it for themselves then they could at least do it for the sake of others.
You ought to see what a semi-truck can do to a horse. Many years ago on a trip to NC with my older brother we witnessed just such a thing. It still haunts me. How the horse got loose I don’t know. It was night on a dark road. Bend in the road, the poor driver wasn’t going that fast, just couldn’t stop in time. Sounded like a bomb went off. God, what a mess.
I quite agree with everything you’ve said.
A quick Google search will show pics of the poor dead horses in such crashes. And the buggy occupants fared about as well, I'm sure.
I've spent years driving in Amish country in PA and OH -- simple safety reflectors and lights are not a lot to ask.
The Amish don’t like the reflective triangle because it is bright and glittery and is not accepted by their religion.
However, in an article I read, they would normally approve of a strip of reflective grey tape affixed to the carriage.
Problem solved.
