Meanwhile, the Marine Corps has appointed a three-star general to decide what disciplinary action to take against the four Marine snipers.
Lt. Gen. Thomas Waldhauser will name another officer to lead an internal Marine Corps investigation. That investigation will be in addition to a criminal probe already under way by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. Waldhauser, who is commander of Marine Corps Forces Central Command, will determine how to proceed once both investigations are completed.
NCIS Communications Director Maryann Cummings also said her department's probe is still "in its very early stages."
"At this point, NCIS has identified and talked to the four Marines in the video. All four are currently in the U.S.. NCIS investigators are still tracking down information on the individual(s) who created and posted the video as well as initiating computer forensic techniques on the video itself," Cummings said. "NCIS conducts a wide range of law enforcement missions for the Department of the Navy. As always, the goal is to gather every possible fact, put the facts into context, and present the results of the investigation to a convening authority to take the appropriate action. NCIS is committed to conducting a comprehensive and thorough investigation."
Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and military leaders have promised an exhaustive investigation and sought to contain the damage at home and abroad.

“In the meantime the traitor in chief commits treason...]
No kidding....
I watched the video of them relieving themselves on this sub-human scum, and view Obama as taking the very same action on our Constitution on a daily basis.
Obama does it on video as well!
On my old computer, I have the video file of the beheading of Daniel Pearl. Watched it several times, as they sawed his living head from his pleading torso with a knife and held it up for display.
I needed to see the evil we were confronting. The general population has never seen true evil up close. I stare it in the eye for the sake of clarity.
That said, I’m GLAD they pissed on them, and in doing, presumably denied them their expected passage to their intended eternity.
Piss away boys, but turn off the cameras!
OK, so lesson learned Marines. Next time take a dump on them instead - and be sure to have eaten a ham sandwich in the 24 hours leading up to the event.
NCIS defending dead enemies. Impressive.
Give me a break Panetta, you @hole. The only damage is self inflicted by jerks like you, who are more interested in kissing libtard & muzzie rears than standing behind your own troops. Send them to bed for a week without supper or something, and be done with it. Acting self-righteous as if pissing on dead bodies is so much horribly worse than killing them in the first place (which Taliban richly deserve), is ridiculous and disgusting. Act like a man & a leader with common sense for once.
I was trying to back you up. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
Rep West seems to have a good handle on this, although I think the severity of punishment he suggests has been completely lost on most readers.
The Marines were wrong. Give them a maximum punishment under field grade level Article 15 (non-judicial punishment), place a General Officer level letter of reprimand in their personnel file, and have them in full dress uniform stand before their Battalion, each personally apologize to God, Country, and Corps videotaped and conclude by singing the full US Marine Corps Hymn without a teleprompter.
That would be:
60 days confinement
Loss of 1 or more grades of rank
45 days of extra military duty
Loss of two months pay
A general officer letter of reprimand is itself a career killer. It's over when there is one of those on file.
That seems rather severe to me for a routine act of war.
