Newt Gingrich: I can't talk rationally about Romney's Bain record
CBS News ^ | 1/11/2012 | Brian Montopoli

Posted on 01/13/2012 11:43:01 AM PST by Qbert

Newt Gingrich on Wednesday suggested his attacks on rival Mitt Romney's record at Bain Capital have not been rational - though a spokesman insisted Gingrich is not backing off the attacks. Gingrich's comment came after a voter in Spartanburg, South Carolina, told Gingrich that he believed the former House speaker has "missed the target on the way you're addressing Romney's weaknesses."

"I want to beg you to redirect and go after his obvious disingenuosness about his conservatism and lay off the corporatist versus the free market," said the voter.

Gingrich replied: "I agree - I agree with you."

"I think it's an impossible theme to talk about with Obama in the background," Gingrich continued. "Obama just makes it impossible to talk rationally in that area because he is so deeply into class warfare that automatically you get an echo effect which, as a Reagan Republican it frankly never occurred to me until it happened. So I agree with you entirely."

Gingrich, who has harshly criticized Romney for his record at Bain, seemed to be saying he cannot "talk rationally" about Romney's record because of the way Mr. Obama frames the issue.

Gingrich's attacks on Romney's record have prompted some conservatives to criticize the former speaker for adopting the rhetoric of Occupy Wall Street. On Fox News on Monday, Gingrich said the buyouts at the company "don't look like capitalism, they look like rich guys looting"; the same day, Gingrich complained to Bloomberg Television that Romney and Bain "made a lot of money while people were going broke." Another GOP presidential candidate, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, has labeled Romney and his Bain coworkers "vultures."

Old news. Anyways the Newt reference to rational talk about Bain was with Obama lurking in the background. This is merely CBS going to bat for Mitt as would be expected.

Misleading title. In fact, the whole CBS story is designed to mislead about the entire exchange Gingrich had with the ROMNEY voter.

It is true that it’s difficult to criticize Mitt on his Bain activities without it dovetailing with Obama’s and the Left’s anti-capitalist, class warfare campaign.

Why is Gingrich always so influenced by Democrats? In the 90s, Gingrich lost the Speaker’s chair in a conservative rebellion because Clinton made him allow too much federal spending in the late 90s, running up what was then a post WW2 high of federal spending at 21% of GNP. Now he claims Obama’s making him out OWS the OWS on venture capitalism. And of course Nancy Pelosi made him jump the shark on global warming. Which Democrat’s thrall will Gingrich fall under if he’s president?? Santorum is the true conservative in the GOP field. Enough phony Newt.

Screw CBS...as all of the MSM, they vehemently want Willard the Lib to prevail over the CONSERVATIVE Newt.

Polling today tells them that Newt wins SC if CONSERVATIVES UNITE.

AND SC has decided our eventual nominee since 1980.

That was a pretty lame answer. He cant talk rationally about Bain because Obama is playing class warfare? That is not the thinking of an adult.

I want to see Mitt’s tax records. I think he is still a partner at Bain & that he is still making an income from such association.

“I want to see Mitt’s tax records. I think he is still a partner at Bain & that he is still making an income from such association.”

Yep. The sooner, the better. If he doesn’t disclose them now and gets the nomination, be prepared to hear Obama banging that drum every single day from the end of primary season until Nov.
