Former first lady Laura Bush wishes there were one more candidate in the Republican presidential primary: Jeb Bush.
Speaking to a sold-out Sarasota audience on Wednesday, Bush said she had hoped that her brother-in-law and former Florida governor would have jumped into the race this year.

It doesn’t matter what the Bush family wants..all that matters is how the American people see it..and they see GW Bush when Perry walks , talks and chews gum..assuming he likes gum.

And I think Earthdweller’s observation about the public perception is correct. I think that is part of the reason Perry has done so poorly, despite a strong record.
Unfortunate but true.
We are a democracy, not an aristocracy. We have millions more qualified people and would do better to look beyond the siblings, wives and children of prior leaders.
Jeb Bush should not be considered for the presidency, nor should Chelsea Clinton, because of the family name.
And the children of Senators and Representatives and Governors shouldn’t be running for a parents’ seat, either.
But no more Bushes for a long, long while.
well shows she has a politically tone deaf ear.
Me,too!!! Although I did not agree with everything GW did, I am so thankful that he was in the White House when 9/11 occurred and that he never wavered from his belief that radical Islam was a threat to the US. Many times in the past three years, I have wished he was still in the White House! As for Jeb, I actually heard him speak here in little Jacksonville, NC, when his father was running for POTUS. He is very impressive and gracious in person!
Not a chance for any more Bushes. We’ve had it!

Are they all his sons? All 5!?
Yes. I am sure the Romney’s were trying to have a daughter and just didn’t happen and after five boys either she could have more or thought we have tried enough. My sister and brother in law had boys and boys and boys until finally a daughter.
I agree with you.
I agree with you.
What they say, and what they do are two different things.
No is my answer.

Don’t you think the Bush father and brother in the White House is enough? We’ve had enough.
Read some books on them.
The anti-Jeb folks on this board really disgust me. He is reliably conservative - the best governor we’ve had in Florida in my lifetime, and he’s immensely popular in this critical state. If the choice were Jeb or Mitt, every one of you would take Jeb. He has none of Gingrich’s baggage, he’s smart and can debate policy with anyone.
I loved Dubya (other then his stance on immigration), but I think 2 Bushes in the WH are quite enough. The country would not permit it. It’s a shame because I actually think Jeb was the better of the two. They all need to quietly bow out of politics and find soemthing else to do for a living. Really.

I don’t disagree, I just don’t like it.
No damn more dynasties. We should stomp them out wherever they exists. There's a flippin Kennedy hoping to relaunch that dynasty by running for Barney Frank's seat. In CA we just saw the Hahn dynasty of L.A. expand into congress.
That includes George Romney's offspring.
