"BINGO, they NEVER wanted control and for the very reason you stated.

Which is why the Establishment is for Romney, Status Quo, and they will WHIP the new tea party members in line with gusto, and those members will then line their pockets. BUSINESS AS USUAL.

Nothing will ever change, there is no difference in party affiliation any longer. "

I respectfully disagree. First off, I disagree that there is an all powerful "GOP Establishment". Who is that, and how, pray tell, are they manipulating the results? I just don't see it. William Kristol, editor of the Weekly Standard and Fox News talking head is about as establishment conservative as you can get. He's been trumpeting alternatives to Mitt all year, lately getting on the Santorum bandwagon.

The reason that Romney is winning is because the other candidates are less compelling to the majority of voters in the two contests held so far. (And of course some very compelling candidates chose not to run at all.) And it's easy to see why: Newt seems rudderless, the Fannie May payday was the last straw for a lot of people. Cain got caught with his pants down, and seemed poorly prepared for the campaign. Bachmann, who I supported, just didn't seem to have enough organization and clear messaging to break through.

I also disagree that "nothing will ever change". Everything will change, one way or another. Under Obama it's been all in a very negative direction. Romney is not Obama. He might not be the true-red savior of the Republic that many here desire, but neither is he an angry, America hating Marxist who is ruling by executive order and subverting the Constitution. He's not a black racist, he's doesn't view Tea Party patriots as potential terrorists, he doesn't think the Constitution is flawed because it doesn't include redistribution of wealth. He's not wired like Obama.

Would he keep Eric Holder as his Attorney General? No. Would he keep Hilary as Sec. of State? No. Would he appoint another justice like Sotomeyer or Kagen? No. Would he gin up horrible class warfare rhetoric? No.

The doom and gloom over Romney is misplaced. Sadly the far right didn't put forward a better candidate, or coalesce around one soon enough, so of course we're disapointed that a moderate is likely going to be the standard bearer again.

But Romney isn't Obama, and the GOP isn't the Democratic Party. That's just angry defeatism. As somone else said I'd vote for a cockroach if it meant getting rid of Obama. I concur, and Romney is a lot better than a cockroach.

And the Senate as a bullwork is a great strategy for us on the Conservative wing of the GOP to go for. While people say that Romney will drive the Senate to the center, the opposite is also possible. At the end of the day the POTUS can only sign or veto legislation sent to him. Romney is unlikely to veto legislation sent to him by a GOP Senate. So, for instance, if we get the Senate and House to do a full repeal of Obamacare is there really any doubt that Romney would sign it? I don't think there is any doubt, he would sign it.

Obama would clearly veto it, and the Senate would not be able to sustain an over-ride.

So if you view Obamacare as a nation killing program that will turn us into Europe, well there is a a way to get rid of it, but it might mean swallowing your pride and voting for the lesser of two evils.

You must be young, so you just keep telling yourself everything will be all right, then get back with me in about 40 yrs. Nothing has changed, but your right it will, it will get worse, the fix was always in and we just think we have some skin in their game.

Buy hey, suit yourself. P.S. I won't be around in 40 yrs, so tell someone else.

Newt is now the only choice we have. imo.

Then I can understand your optimism, and that is a good thing to have. I am much older, (much) and have see too much go down through the years, always hoping for "Well, maybe NEXT YEAR, or 4 yrs later"

THAT NEVER HAPPENS, it never gets better. The best we can do is COPE and continue to fight with all the pessimism that is in us. WE MUST.

The last good thing was Reagan, and the NEWT Congress, alas it was squandered, and I have to try and get it back. I'm just plain worn out with disgust.

Even after the election, there will not be 40 conservatives in the Senate. And even if there were, they wouldn’t be able to resist following a Republican president bent on expanding the Welfare State. When have they ever been?
