I've been on FR since 1996, reg repub, have teaching degree myself & wife has been spec ed teacher entire life; we are very conservative people.
Time out rooms work like this: Kid goes in screaming, swearing, kicking the padded walls. Kid then starts crying, kid then starts begging. Kid then talks about their actions with teacher and once kid realizes he shouldn't/can't live this way in society; back into classroom he goes. Happens over and over everyday all across America. We can't turn these kids into the streets. Parents aren't parenting, so our Nation's schools & teachers are forced to do it. Teachers hate it as much as anybody; just the way our country is going, sad.
Hey, my younger sister is a special ed teacher, too. She is special in the patience, creativity and good will department. You wife is probably the same.
Actually, schools are outdated herd formats that don’t work in this era. OBVIOUSLY - they are not working anymore. But no school should keep an uncontrolable, violent child in the building. There are schools for delinquent children and that is better than turning the whole school into a prison with armed guards or mental institution with padded rooms.
I don’t trust public school officials nor teachers to decide such matters. Schools have changed a lot since my sister began her career and she’s appauled at the lack of love, wisdom and soul. She says they have devolved. I could not beleive what happened in our upper middle class high school. We paid for the best in our town. We go psychos with no brakes. My sister guided me through the process of nailing them.
