Just finished watching the Piers interview. Newt did a great job.

When Rove came on Hannity & etc., the wife said we’d probably get better news and coverage on CNN. She was right. Getting real sick of foxnews!

Greta is the best interviewer on tv; hard worker, fair, no agenda, concise and works on the premise that getting to the facts (and with knowledgable followup Q) is her job by asking the right questions and staying out of the way. She asks the hard questions even when it is uncomfortable to ask.
Please, in this phony baloney tv world I am grateful for a straight shooter who is smart and quick and I hope she stays a good long time.

Piers repeats, so I set TIVO. I can’t stay up. Will watch tomorrow. I am looking forward to the interview. Thanks very much for mentioning it!

Yes, I think. We all know that Obama is a nasty piece of work with a vengeful spirit. But he is an actor, and he can present himself to a crowd as a pleasant, charming, easy-going guy who doesn't mind making a joke at his own expense. On the surface, he seems likable. It's hard for us to see that, but this is the image he displays, and it works for him in a campaign.

But look at Newt. He has a fat face, he's not good-looking, and while he can look pleasant at times, it fades as soon as he starts talking policy. This distances people. He seems hostile. Nobody ever won a presidential election by seeming dark and angry. Remember how light-hearted Reagan seemed all the time, how upbeat? Even in times of deep sorrow, we never had the sense that Reagan's soul was depressed or angry; his grief was present, but he seemed basically an optimistic, courageous person. That's what the American people want in a leader, someone who gives them hope, real hope.

I have avoided CNN for years... I still can’t stand them, but Faux news makes me sick. I just can watch anything on Fox anymore.

“Newt, you need to smile. Obama is all smiley and cheerful.”

Whoo HOO! I agree. (Let the naysayers say he is arrogant”, or say he is “angry”.) I don’t care, just let it rip!

It was surprisingly long. Piers was of course a jerk on several occasions, but it didn’t make Newt sweat so much as a drop. Enjoy... ;>)

GO NEWT GO.....

Just watched a good portion of the interview with Piers Morgan. Newt looked very relaxed and likeable with a pretty liberal guy in Piers. Somebody has gotten to Newt and retooled him back to the sage, wise and interesting person that crawled up from nowhere and grabbed everybody’s attention back in November.

This was a very effective interview, because when you see him in this style, he is open about who he is, where he comes from, and how he has matured through the years - very effective. He also explains American culture more effectively than any politician I can remember since Reagan.

In the last 2 days, he is doing something very telling. He had to go hard on Romney to stop the inevitability story the press is selling - they clearly want to face Romney.

Second, after NH, Newt has stated clearly in several media appearances that this is essentially do or die for himself in SC. By doing so he is drawing attention to himself for maximized exposure. The story now is ‘Can Newt do it?’, instead of ‘Romney is rolling along’. Americans love the underdog, especially an underdog who reflects the traditional populist culture that Reagan beautifully portrayed. Newt is communicating this to the SC people.

Third, now that he has everybody’s attention, he said today that his focus is on his record in governance to Romney’s. This is a great story because he can credibly say that the economic policies that Newt led created the environment for business growth that guys from high society like Romney down to the working people used to great benefit. Aside from one weak term as Mass. governor, what has Romney really done that has helped our American society as a whole? This is now the game, and Newt has one week to sell it. Solid plan, not impossible!
