After Ron Paul finished a distant second in the New Hampshire primaries last night, his campaign released a statement that calls for all the other candidates except Mitt Romney to drop out of the race. From the campaign:
The race is becoming more clearly a two-man race between establishment candidate Mitt Romney and Ron Paul, the candidate of authentic change. That means there is only one true conservative choice. …
We urge Ron Pauls opponents who have been unsuccessfully trying to be the conservative alternative to Mitt Romney to unite by getting out of the race and uniting behind Pauls candidacy.
Ron Paul has the boldest plan to cut spending, a dedication to protecting life, and a lifelong dedication to the Constitution and limited government. He also has the necessary support to campaign nationwide against Mitt Romney.
The statement also points out that Ron Paul has been shown in national polls as able to beat Obama — unlike any of the other non-Mitts. Like nearly everything Paul says, the statement is bold. Were it not Ron Paul making it — were it, say, Rick Santorum — it would probably be a more welcome sentiment to concerned conservatives. Those pesky foreign policy positions …
Still, for all that Mitt Romney has so far received little credit from the media for his doubleheader of victories and for all that Republican strategists routinely dismiss Ron Paul as a viable alternative to Romney, the two both proved a remarkable ability to attract support from Republicans of all ideological stripes. According to the exit polls, 42 percent of Republicans who consider themselves conservative on most policy matters voted for Romney and an additional 19 percent of Republicans who consider themselves conservative voted for Paul. In other words, they numbered one and two among conservative Republicans no less than among moderate-to-liberal Republicans.
Nevertheless, New Hampshire is a unique animal, known for the moderate tendencies of its residents. We’ll have a much better picture of the preferences of the entire GOP base after South Carolina.
I realize you are trying to be clever or maybe even insulting, fail.
You say Paul is not your first choice however spend a great deal of time trumpeting him - just saying.
Look into the truth mirror......
Crazy Uncle Ron thinks he’s the Borg now, and simply wants to assimilate the rest of us to become part of the nutbucket brigade. Yikes.
I am a fan of all true conservatives, but trust me madam, Dr. Paul is not getting my vote in the primary because I think he does not appeal to the general public enough to get elected. In the real world the tall handsome guy usually wins. My primary objective is to keep BHO from winning a second term and completing his destruction of America. It is a shame that a site that claims to be dedicated to conservative values spends more time attacking other conservatives than it does attacking the left-wing. Although I do not intend to vote for Dr. Paul in this primary, I certainly admire him and I do hope to vote for Rand Paul for POTUS someday.

Not according to this ranking.

"Those Ratings are really only a measure of a representative's submission to political parties, and not how well they stand for liberal or conservative principles.
As such, those rated should be referred to more accurately as either Democrat or Republican, and not liberal or conservative. It's disappointing to learn that The Vote Ratings are clearly a measure of conformity to political parties rather than principles."
Oh, I see.
Having once regarded myself as a Libertarian, I now understand why Ayn Rand despised them.
I can agree with that. I am sure as a human being Ron Paul is a great person. The issue really is with one of his ideas. His supporters on the other hand often leave a lot to be desired.
That is one of the reasons I cannot support Dr. Paul in the primary; his campaign has been hijacked by some fringe characters who do not line up with conservatism on some key issues. Dr. Paul himself probably votes in a way I agree with over 90% of the time but that does not mean he would be the most ideal candidate for President. Dr. Paul would have a real uphill battle getting elected and on the very outside chance he did win the election it is difficult to see see anything other than some sort of anarchy coming out of Washington. This is why I am supporting Mitt Romney; I think he will be able to accomplish getting America back on track, particularly if we hold the house and either increase our numbers in the Senate or win the Senate. Getting a Republican elected will not solve our problems. We need someone who can work with a conservative congress without blowing it the way GWB did when we owned both houses and the presidency.
So let me get this straight...we Freepers are helping Obama get elected by ensuring that Romney-who none of us can stand, BTW-gets the nomination by opposing Paul-who is himself just a stalking horse for Romney? Is this some kind of homeopathic politics?
We also scratch our heads because we have itchy feet, I suppose.
And Paulbots wonder why we think they are crazy?
Um kay...
Um kay...
Well, let’s hope - hope Romney governs like a conservative.
