I fully expect the next Olympics to open with its trademark hymn "Ode to Joy, Hope and Change" by Pierre De Beethoven.
Leni
Oh, Heck Yeah.
I was in my prime when that Garage Door (or was it a wall?) was painted with that -- and the pic of dog peeing on it was shot :-)
an aside:
The first time I heard Duane Eddy on the radio that was 'finally it' for me, I HAD to learn to play the guitar 'some day'. And living in Chi we'd go to the 'Maxwell St Flea Market' almost every Sunday. I didn't want to leave from the 'Negroes playing that 'cool music' (Blues)' there on the street curb. I had to be dragged away. That was in 1955 & 56 & I was 7 & 8. But man o man, I loved that sound.
Well .. yeah Eric covered a lot of other's songs in his 'younger' days(1). But he sure wasn't alone in that. The Beatles for one did it an awful lot too in their 'Beatlemainia days' and even after that. Ringo doing 'Matchbox' is a cover of Carl Perkins(2) Rockabilly version.
But speaking of covering other's songs, look no further than 'The King'. Elvis covered so many songs, I now wonder if any of his early year stuff was written originally for him(3).
(1) Clapton covered those 'old' and other's songs out of respect and tribute to those 'Greats', not to make the cash register go ding. I'd bet he'd think his best moments came when he was able to play with Blues Legends like BB King and Buddy Guy and other Masters of Blues and R&R.
(2) Go to YouTube and search "Carl Perkins and Friends". Then get ready to sit back and enjoy all the great songs. That is, if you can stay seated and don't start dancing :-)
(3) Sam Phillips really screwed up. IIRC he had Elvis, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis all under contract at the same time.
I was hoping the Obama song would be written by Yawnni.
I thought he already had an anthem....what about Ooo..baa..maa.....mmmmmm.....mmmmmm......mmmmmmm?
Let’s call the “anthem” by what it is....a HYMN to the Messiah.
I fully expect the next Olympics to open with its trademark hymn “Ode to Joy, Hope and Change” by Pierre De Beethoven.
oui oui, oui oui, oui oui oui oui, oui oui oui oui oui ouioui, .....
As far as I know, it was Raymond LeFevre & His Orchestra with Soul Coaxing, from the early months of 1968.
Après O, le déluge.
Thanks Fiji Hill. La Jeune Garde is the song if the French communist international youth, now used by the Socialist Party. I’ve looked for a translation but not found one.
Basically it is taken from the words if Lenin saying if you want to make an omelette you’ve got to break eggs, or in French “tant pis s’il est cruel”
“too bad if its cruel”
Fits Obama to a T.
So Obama is offshoring his own campaign.
Yes, he can! This is a good point to make against a supporter of Internationalism.
You know, of course, we don’t have any American songwriters and musicians who need the work.
France has a great cultural history, but what passes for music in France today is pathetic.
Except for Alizee ;)
Here’s the translation from Google, with a little tweaking:
We are the young guard
We are the guys in the future
High in suffering
Yes we will conquer or die
We work for a good cause
To deliver the human race
Too bad if our blood sprinkles
The fish on our way!
Beware, beware
You swordsmen the bourgeois stuffed
Here is the young guard, here comes the young guard
Coming down the street
This is the start of the final battle
It is the revenge of all who died of hunger
This is the revolution that advances
This is the battle against the villains
Beware, beware
Beware, beware
Here comes the young guard
Children of poverty,
We force the rebels
We will avenge our fathers
That thieves have exploited.
We do not want to famine,
Who works must have bread.
Tomorrow we will take the plants,
We are men and not dogs.
We want no more war
Because we love humanity.
All men are our brothers,
We cry fraternity.
Universal Republic.
Emperors and kings, all buried.
Never mind if the fight is cruel.
After the rain, the weather is nice.
Thank you, Fiji Hill.
I’m fluent in French, and this is a great tool to have.
The song is quite disturbing, n’est ce pas? The Communist/ Internationalist imprint in France is still very strong.
