Barack Hussein Gingrich
WSJ ^ | 1/10/2012 | James Taranto

Posted on 01/10/2012 4:36:41 PM PST by PAR

Humiliated in Iowa, a desperate and angry Newt Gingrich is taking the offensive against Mitt Romney, whom he accuses of "looting companies when he headed the Bain Capital investment firm," reports NationalJournal.com, and "conservative interests are pushing back":...

I read Taranto every day but don't completely agree on this one. I think Obama would use footage of Newt's criticisms to great effect in the fall.

Lost alot of respect for Newt on this - he sounds just like a bleeding heart liberal. I can see the Obama ads now if Romney wins the nomination - a shot of Newt castigating Romney for his Bain experience - and then we will be led to believe that if Newt Gingrich of all people is criticizing Romney then Romney must really be blood thirsty, vicious and brutal capitlist who couldn’t possibly identify with many people who are struggling right now.

Newt may still think he can win but the probability of that happening at this point is clearly pretty low, which is why I think he is ultimately putting himself and getting revenge ahead of the principles he espouses. Obama I’m sure is getting a pretty good laugh out of this.

Nah. Listen to Newt's explanation.

It's unfortunate many Republicans don't seem to understand it. Newt's case is simple:

1) Romney's "private sector experience" is of a particular kind that's going to represent a huge liability in the general election. Nobody's asserting that Bain Capital's actions were necessarily illegitimate nor unlawful, but it's obvious that Romney was no white knight of heroic, entrepreneurial capitalism.

2) Questions on business ethics are legitimate inquiries that one should have to answer for, especially if they're running for public office—these are not attacks on capitalism, and it's completely goofy that some would construe it that way. Those advocating a "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" attitude towards private enterprise activity, aren't doing capitalism any favors.

No word that Gingrich's 'angry' response came after Romney waged a hugely negative campaign against him in Iowa.

Gingrich has taken the wrong track, for sure. But friggen Willard is responsible for dragging the primaries into the gutter.

Let’s face it if you want everyone to be so careful about what they say, Newt is making a jackass of himself, and that is his long standing problem shooting off his mouth.

Who cares if Obama uses it against Romney? If Romney gets the nomination, I and many other conservatives will be voting 3rd party anyway.

No RINOs. No Romney.

With Rush warning him today, Newt is just about burning his last bridge. It’s not that he is attacking Romney, it’s what he is saying.

The Wall Street Journal analysis is devastating for Willlard at Bain..

Adding insult to injury, Bain would hide its profits in tax havens, not even paying the rate it was supposed to on the profits it made laying off workers.

Let’s see how the taxpayers feel about bailing out these companies’ pension funds and receiving no tax money back from Bain. Let’s let the people decide what they think of bailing out Romney.

Bottom line: Why should American taxpayers have to be forced to pay for Willard’s business incompetence and greed?

One example:

Workers were denied the severance pay and health insurance they’d been promised, and their pension benefits were cut..

What’s more, a FEDERAL GOVERNMENT insurance agency had to PONY UP $44 MILLION TO BAIL OUT the company’s underfunded pension plan.

Nevertheless, Bain profited on the deal, receiving $12 million on its $8 million initial investment and at least $4.5 million in consulting fees.

Newt is turning himself into this year’s McCain. Same thing. Bush surrogates went negative on McCain, McCain flipped out.

Newt could have used Romneycare, abortion, so many things. Talking about “looting” companies is absolutely assinine. And just my guess it will hurt Newt.

So you are one of those people that think Obama had no idea about this until now?

Yeah, he was so unsure what to do, but Newt just opened the door for him!

And what should anyone here on FR care, when did this place become a Romney sympathy society?

WSJ, the RNC, elitist establishment - all are terrified of Newton Leroy Gingrich, a candidate endorsed by many former Reagan administration members. Instead they support a former MA governor who governed like a liberal Democrat and as a businessman was more dedicated to looting than building a business.

The question YOU should be asking yourself, is why?

Exactly! And if people don’t think that the Dems already had this (a a ton of other things) ready to go against Romney...then they are very naive.

“Questions on business ethics are legitimate inquiries that one should have to answer for, especially if they’re running for public office—these are not attacks on capitalism”

Amen....and AMEN!!!!
