Some of the Tebow-bashing is because he is a Christian, but certainly not all. I don’t know if you’re a football fan... but on occasions he can be horrifically bad. Almost painful to watch. That’s the genesis for the bulk of criticism from sportswriters IMHO. They expect every NFL quarterback to fall in a specific mold, and will tear down anyone who plays the game differently.
But.... sometimes... he’s fantastic. Especially in the clutch. If the Broncos somehow manage to upend the Patriots, prepare for heads exploding like you’ve never seen.
Brett Favre threw some of the worst interceptions...at the worst times. It wasn't until he had done it dozens of times that even a few noticed. Yet everyone notices that Tim doesn't have the skill...Others like Doug Flutie didn't have what it took either...but he just kept winning also (not as much in the NFL as the CFL, but his record in the NFL wasn't that bad).
He has looked terrible at times but that being said because he is white and Christian they hate him even more.
All he does is win
And Elway was just as horrifically bad in his first 2 seasons.....
I can't help but think of the career of a Jewish ball player who also had an erratic start; Sandy Koufax.
As a long time Broncos fan, I can remember enduring Elway’s first season, even when he lined up and tried to take a snap from a left guard. We in Denver are glad to have this “horrible” player here. At least the games are fun again, like they were when Elway played.
