ALBANY Police Chief Steven Krokoff roared to the defense of his department Thursday night, singling out city lawmakers by name in a blistering speech as he accused two of being "too weak to stand for the truth" and capitalizing on recent traumas for their own political gain.
The normally mild-mannered chief's scorching offensive, which he began by citing the number of officers injured in the line of duty in each of the last two years, seemed to stun some members of the Common Council, who had summoned Krokoff before them to explain his department's actions during the Dec. 22 showdown between police and Occupy Albany protesters in Academy Park.

Go Chief.
Protesters rights end when they start stepping all over the rights of others.
Protesting is one thing, camping out is another.
Council Members sucking up to OWS for votes is disgusting.
You have a right to protest
You DO NOT have a right to permanently occupy public land paid for by other citizens tax dollars. When finally told to move, you move or your silly ass should be in jail..............
Chief 1, Council 0.
Freeman, ... said the chief would do well to focus on containing the turmoil that is continuing to brew in his neighborhood.WTG, Councilman Freeman. You really put that Chief in his place. And Councilman Freeman you're EXACTLY the type of well spoken and apparently well educated person I look for when I vote for our Village Board members."I don't got anything to say about him. It's the people underneath him I worry about," Freeman said. "If he doesn't quell this situation, there's gonna be problems. He needs to get on it. If they don't watch this thing carefully, watch what happens."
After all what doesn't beat a good ole, "I don't got" and "gonna be", topped off by a highly intellectual, "get on it." when discussing official city business at an official city meeting.
Not to mention ending with this gem, "If they don't watch this thing carefully, watch what happens." Now I'm sure that means something but if they 'don't watch it', how can they 'watch what happens'?
Hmmm??? On second thought maybe I overrated his 'smarts'.
I'm now wondering who taught him the words, 'turmoil' and 'quell'?
oh-oh, I haven't checked but I have a feeling I'm being ... uh ... 'racist'.
For the last two elections Albany County has elected a District Attorney named P. David Soares, a intellectual brother of Obama. He was backed by the County and State Democraps because the then current Democrat DA had the audacity to arrest and indict some downstate Legislative members and/or their staff. Soares announced to the Public, the Police Chief and the Mayor of Albany that he would not prosecute the “Occupiers” of the city or state parks in front of the Capital Building.
A few years ago Albany HAD (PAST TENSE) a good, if Democrat Mayor, named Gerry Jennings but when the “Occupiers” took over the parks Jennings caved into Soares and did not allow the police to take any action for months. This INSPITE of Governor CUOMO’S demand for police action. Cuomo then ordered the State Police to remove the Occupiers from the state park land but Soares refused to prosecute. It’s tough when a Cuomo is your conservative anchor,
Albany City is moving toward being a small Philadelphia, thanks to Jennings. The white flight increases each year.
