Depends on if you are talking economic or social issues.

I have never liked Ann Coulter. She embarrasses me.

On the contrary, I love Rick Santorum. I want to be him when I grow up — not her. LOL.

What I mean by that, is that I want to be considered a serious, thoughtful, kind, person.

You're not familiar with the author, are you?

Seriously ... WTH has happened to Ann?!?

Nothing. This is the way she's always been, but conservatives tend to put blinders on when someone in the public eye talks their talk. Fact is, though Coulter is and always has been a skanky elitist snob and a very unpleasant person.

Leaving aside politics and just focusing on the human element, I have never forgotten Coulter's chief reason for shrilly opposing Harriet Miers' nomination to the Supreme Court. It was because Miers didn't come from an Ivy League law school.

Not at all like Nancy Pelosi. She is more of a liberal than a Catholic.

So tcg, how do you square Conservatism with the Catholic church position, as enunciated by people like the Archbishop of Los Angeles who basically flaunts our country’s immigration laws vis a vis illegal Mexican Immigration? To my mind, you can’t have church hierarchy “deciding” that their ideas about compassion and all that trumping Federal law. What say you?

I'm Catholic, and I totally agree.

As a matter of fact, the Catechism of the Catholic Church totally agrees with your standpoint as well. Here's the relevant text (CCC 2241):

The more prosperous nations are obliged, to the extent they are able, to welcome the foreigner in search of the security and the means of livelihood which he cannot find in his country of origin. Public authorities should see to it that the natural right is respected that places a guest under the protection of those who receive him.

Political authorities, for the sake of the common good for which they are responsible, may make the exercise of the right to immigrate subject to various juridical conditions, especially with regard to the immigrants' duties toward their country of adoption. Immigrants are obliged to respect with gratitude the material and spiritual heritage of the country that receives them, to obey its laws and to assist in carrying civic burdens.

I sincerely hope that answers your question.

And, while I don't know all the stances of the new Los Angeles Bishop (José Gómez), he's generally known in conservative Catholic circles to be head-and-shoulders better than his detestable predecessor, Bishop Mahoney. Maybe it is Mahoney that you are referring to.

Dealing with boneheaded Bishops is a cross we in the US Church often need to carry. At least things appear to be getting better, slowly but surely.

I’ve been saying for a while, she hasn’t been the same since her mother died. Also, the whole brouhaha at CPAC last year threw her into the more lib side of the GO. But this kind of bigotry is beyond the pale, even for Coulter.

Did she say anything about Mitt being more Mormon than conservative? Has she ever set out just how she sees Mitt as conservative?

I can only suppose that Ann has done the math and has realized that the stable of alternatives is now down to the ones that we can hope to actually win against Obama.

Another Obama administration will not be the milquetoast leader we have seen so far. A second term Obama will be much, much worse. Most of FR seems to be OK with that. I’m not.

You already are considered all these things by me, just judging from the photo of your beautiful garden!

I used to relish her articles, columns and interviews.

_________________________________________________________

I still do, her humor and wit are second to none. I don't understand her love of Romney and I don't understand why she didn't support Bachman. I guess some people can't be right 100% of the time.

She does make a point about the conflicts between many Catholics and Republican policy. Many in the Church believe we have a duty to care for the disadvantaged, and we do indeed as individuals have that responsibility. The difference is that many Catholics believe that we have that responsibility as a society and there is the rub. If all Catholics were generous in their offerings to the Catholic church then the Catholic church would have the money it needs to take care of the poor but unfortunately the members of the Catholic Church are not as a whole so generous. Catholics like Pelosi, Kennedy and perhaps Santorum (although I believe he is the best of what's left) feel that they should make society follow the ideals of the Catholic church and care for the poor. So now 50% of the people in this country support the other 50%.

I know people will jump all over me but Ron Paul is right on this point, the government taking from me to support sombody else is no different than Robin Hood doing it. I resent it. I am generous in my offerings to support the poor because I feel as a Christian it is my duty, I do not feel it is my duty to force someone else to do Christian Charity.

Christian Charity forced upon people and administered by non-Christian people has promoted single mothers which has been the biggest factor of ruin in our society. I remember when Lyndon Johnson told a group of reporters that women would not have children to get more welfare and laughed at the idea that that would happen, it did indeed happen and we now have had babies having babies for generations and ruined these generations, nothing will ever be able to help these poor people fit back into society, it has been an evil exercise all in the name of Christian Charity.

Call it what ever you wish but the safety net or welfare has ruined our society.

NOT buying it. A true Catholic would never have to defend their belief.

To be honest, Santorum is so utterly dull, and offers so little of note when it comes to reforming government, that I wouldn’t even bother writing an article to attack him if I were Ann.
