I can understand why everyone is impressed with Newt’s eloquence off the cuff. I can’t fathom why a single Freeper supports him over Santorum or Perry. The guy gave scores of speeches on Cap and Trade, totally falling for the specious hoax, and cuddled the the vicious Pelosi on a couch. He supports statehood for Puerto Rico, which will kill the GOP. The guy is a fountain of nutty ideas. Better than the Failure or Romney? Yes, but enthusiasm for Gingrich mystifies me. Bob

"enthusiasm for Gingrich mystifies me."

Well allow me to demistify you.

Newt was there for us when the Dems contolled congress for 40 years and he said the GOP could take over. Everyone thought that was a "nutty idea," too. But he attacked Jim Wright and Dan Rostenkowski with the tenacity of a bulldog. He stood in the House well making Special Orders speeches night after night sometimes to an empty chamber. But he never gave up.

I remember him negotiating welfare reform and balanced budgets. NO I'm not saying he did it by himself but he was positively instrumental in it.

I know he's a man of intellect and an understanding of policy nuances that frankly no one in the race comes near. I know he's eloquent and ferocious.

Do I like everything he's done? Of course not. But when you add up his experience, his intellect and his record of accomplishment, there's no one close.

People here blather about him sitting on the couch with Nancy. But google his TESTIMONY against Cap And Trade in 2009 in which he eviscerated Henry Pigman Waxman. Of course you're free to give more credence to a public service announcement if you want, but that doesn't make it sensible.

Perry is a good guy, but his communciation skills are somewhere between ludicrously awful and nonexistent. He's conservative. But he just sounds like a dolt.

Santorum is arguably more conservative than Newt...though not really by a lot. But he's nowhere near as eloquent, experienced or articulate as Newt. Maybe some other time.

I like Newt. You don't? Fine....but he's earned the respect of conservatives everywhere and has done more for the conservative movement than just about anyone this side of Reagan.

Hank
