Sportswriters and ballplayers have nothing in common so much as an urge to utter four favorite words:
I told you so.
Its become the coin of the realm in this business. Nothing inspires such opportunistic passion as a chance to hate the doubters and doubt the haters.

What happened Sunday night was more than an upset. It was more than a thrilling playoff win for the Broncos. It was an epic rebuke to Tebows legions of doubters. Call it Tebow 3:16...
Tebow came out for the postgame presser in a knit cap and a vest, jeans and sneakers. He offered praise to God (which, for some reason, doesnt bug me so much when he does it). He spoke of how privileged he was to spend time before the game with Bailey Knaub, a 16-year-old who has endured 73 surgeries battling Wegener's granulomatosis, a rare disease that attacks vital organs. And he credited his teammates...who make me look a lot better than I really am.

I cant think of an athlete, who has been judged by such bipolar standards. Tebow began the season as a bum. Then he became a savior (not just the garden-variety redeemer of a franchise, but spoken of as a true messianic figure). Then he became a bum again. By Sunday morning, ESPNs various broadcasters were pontificating on his crushed confidence and predicting his replacement by Brady Quinn, who is not only a proven failure as an NFL quarterback but hadnt thrown a pass all season.

With the safeties blitzing, there was nothing between Thomas and the end zone. An 80-yard touchdown ended the overtime just as it began 11 seconds earlier. The stadium erupted in a way I have never seen, not at a football game...

Are you being serious? (meaning that Tebow game reports are seemingly the ONLY sports articles I see where Scriptural references and "glory to God" references regularly get injected)
Or sarcastic? (Given that this writer even reverently referenced a "Tebow 3:16" in his column)
The best thing about this win, is that it pretty much squashes any talk that Tebow won’t be Denver’s starting quarterback next season.
Indeed. The 10-3 leader. King of the battlefield.

Pionere. :)
If you can survive making the placement, those 30DC are big deals. Give me their half-squad with a FT any day.
It was really cool to see the 5 commentators, Howie Long et al, “Tebowing” to sign off of their broadcast. The impact the guy is having must be immense.
On the flip side, I’ve heard some unbelievable rants about him from the (apparently) lost.
HE has an amazing sense of humor.
Yes, I am excited to watch this guy play. I am more excited to see how God may use him. I also know (as I suspect do you) that there will be intense adverse pressure along the way. When you see folks like “Lady Gaga” jumping in the discussion I am both encouraged and mindful that we are all made of flesh, king David comes to mind here.
So, it was a thrilling game, but it also ought to give all of us a more determined sense of boldness to bring glory to the only One who is worthy.
Well, lots to be said for Steelers' offense making its way thru injuries (RB Mendenhall; Left tackle injured during game; and QB Ben gritting through it). People don't realize that since those sexual assault charges and 4-game NFL suspension, Ben has returned to his faith & is part of an Evangelical church.
He went off the straight path; but returned as a prodigal. People should credit God's grace in that.
And...speaking of grace...the Steeler offense certainly got it with that fumble being ruled an incomplete pass early in the 2nd half. That totally changed the tone of the game; but, perhaps God had a greater end-game platform in mind!
As for the Steelers' defense, no kudos at all to such a "cheap-shot" bunch. Three facemasks (two vs. Tebo; one vs. Ball the RB) weren't called in the second half. I can't recall ever a game at ANY level where 3 facemasks were committed...let alone 3 UNCALLED facemasks -- all in the span of a quarter.
The ones vs. Tebow were by linebacker LaMarr Woodley & safety Troy Polamalu...the latter being when Tebo was already on the ground. The other one -- vs. Ball -- I believe was by a back-up lineman...and the lack of a flag forced the Broncos to have to settle for a field goal. That one was the most blatant of them all.
Time to retire that ref crew for the season -- and time for that white hat to hang up his career.
One ESPN write-up of the game referenced the "aging" Steeler defense. But it wasn't any of their double-digit vets (I don't believe) who were cheap-shotting the Broncos.
Sgt. Pitz has nothing on Tebow! ;-)

A hearty thank you for that write up. I am not as familiar with Ben, but I heard some of that chatter. I am delighted for Ben! Again, King David comes to mind here as do the consequences of our sins. To whom much is given much is required. More important to God is our heart towards Him.
(BTW, many of us who watch the game were suprised by the non face mask calls.) The Steelers are a good team, but what an exciting game!
What the heck is a Colofornian? Most of the Californians that have moved here to Colorado have created too many problems and have lousy attitudes. Out here we call them Californicators. I was also, ticked at all the yellow flags flying at the Bronco game yesterday, if these people have moved here then got over the Steelers and support the Broncs. If however, they are just visitors then we simply wait till they fly home and wish them well. Nuff said!
And the top google search this morning? John 3:16. God uses this young man mightily
Indeedy, with an average of 31.6 yards per throw.
See John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.Coincidence? or purely Amazing???
My team the Patriots plays Denver next weekend. In the view of a great many sportscasters, this game will pit one of the most highly skilled QBs in the sport, a master of "correct" throwing technique (Brady), against a QB criticized for not even knowing how to throw a football right (Tebo). Should be interesting....
Praise the Lord!!!
Sounds like a lot of Broncos fans with tickets put money before rooting for their team and sold their tickets to Steelers fans.
For all you old Squad Leader/Cross of Iron players out there: 10/-3.
Man, you write blather. The guy who wrote that Americans are fickle, is vindicated by you. You think that he’s a good player and may be a hero but you fret that he may have some failing. Man, you don’t want a hero. If you read Scripture, you will read that once upon a time, Satan fit your standards.
Metmom, I meant to ping you to this.
What a spectacular finish!
Watched it - thanks...
This kid is a delight and my new hero...
loved it when he chatted up Urlacher, one of my other fave players...
Timothy 3:16
Every Scripture passage is inspired by God. All of them are useful for teaching, pointing out errors, correcting people, and training them for a life that has God’s approval.
Amen
