You know, after a conversation with a friend who really hates Palin, and all he knows about her is what he’s heard from the media, I had this thought: what if Newt is nothing like the media, insiders, the backstabbers, and congressional elite portray him... I keep looking for those traits I keep seeing attributed to him, but I don’t see them. The ethics violations were essentially what they tried against Sarah in Alaska, the trashing, the badmouthing, the self-righteous piety, all of it... what if Newt is really a good guy? It wouldn’t be the first time the media et al have painted a picture of someone that was 180 degrees off based on their preferences... don’t get me wrong, I don’t really care. I support Newt as a bastard, I support him as a nonbastard, but I just wonder sometimes...

You make a clever point.

I have a few crazy theories, but I think they’re true. The person who usually wins the presidency is the person with the best smile...I know that’s pretty superficial, but it’s true. I think Palin would win, just on her smile.

Obama vs Newt? I think it’s pretty even so, we then look at the personality, and if you package Newt as The Bambino, a kind of Babe Ruth type of guy, he’s pretty likeable.

But do you recall when Reagan was running vs Carter? He was given an awful persona by the left. Two weeks before the elections he was losing. Then came the Cleveland debate and people could see that Reagan wasn’t a cowboy and crazy.

I think the debates are showing that Newt is restrained and careful. I think he’ll be good vs Obama and not get flusterred.
