Ok. I’m an idiot but why is China’s population not going down?
My over simplified question:
Generation I
1,000,000,000 - One billion people
Minus 1/3 who are older and past child bearing years. 45 years or older.
660,000,000 - Total male and female
330,000,000 - Couples giving birth to only one child.
Generation II
330,000,000 - Total male and females
165,000,000 - Couples giving birth to only one child.
Generation III
165,000,000 - Total male and females
82,500,000 - Couples giving birth to only one child.
The current birth rate is 1.8 in China, since one child is the goal but rural families, ethnic minorities and certain desirables and rich who pay the fines get to have 2 kids.
China’s birth rate was close to 6 kids from 1950s-1960s. In the 1970s, they started trying to get the birth rate down. Even in 1975, the birth rate was 2.7.
This means that the first generation of only children were born to parents with 2-5 siblings.
I suspect that China wil end the one child policy in a generation to save themselves.
