My insurance has a $20 copay to go to an urgent care vs. a $150 copay to go to the ER.
At the ER, be prepared for a long wait, an extended stay in the curtained room if you have insurance and many illegals and uninsured people in front of you. (I have been in the curtained room for 5+ hours with no one even checking on me- I seriously felt they were running up my bill on purpose.)
Urgent care, no wait.
The last time we went to the ER, I had the feeling that because we have insurance, we moved way up in line. We still sat in the “curtained room” for a long time but we weren’t in Little Tijuana (waiting room) long at all.
To get in front of the line just wear a green baseball hat that says BORDER PATROL.

See my number 47, it's exactly opposite of yours. An urgent care visit costs me nearer $300 opposed to E.R. of a flat $50.
I know it doesn't make sense but that's the way it is.
