If that is the case why should we not reform the program?

It must be reformed along with the entire government.

Why do so many act as if social security is not part of the same government that is 16 trillion in debt? Read the beginning of this thread.... Santorum mentions social security, was probably taken out of context, and half the first 50 posts were “he is finished.

We may go down in history as the most immoral generation of Americans if we leave these sacred programs untouched no matter how crushing the debt.

I like Santorum. He’s a good man. He’s a good Catholic. I know this personally. Also, he’s my third choice, behind Perry and Gingrinch, as the repub nom. He can’t win nationally, imo. Not yet, anyway. If he’s the nom, I’ll support him/vote for him but I won’t in the primary if I have the two other choices.

I think he’s finished because he mentioned a sacred cow to both dems and repubs...don’t even think about SS decreases and for heavens sakes never actually say it. Even if it’s the right thing, it won’t play well across the board/nationally.
