WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The same U.S. aircraft carrier group that Iran warned not to return to the Gulf has rescued 13 Iranians held hostage for weeks by pirates in the Arabian Sea, the Pentagon said on Friday.
The rescue operation took place on Thursday, when forces with the USS John C. Stennis carrier strike group received a distress call from the master of the Al Molai, an Iranian-flagged fishing vessel, who said he was being held captive by pirates.

Doing their job! The fishermen on that boat will never forget that the USN saved their lives.
I wonder how Ron Paul would view this use of American Taxpayer money....
Would he say that it is none of our business and not a legitimate use of the military for defensive purposes?
Talk about irony!!
I’m sure they would’ve done the same for our men.
Iran has been at war with the USA since they took our embassy. They have killed US citizens around the world. It is time that deaths come home to Iranian soil and at the hands of those that the Iranians have been attacking.
If Iran doesn't change its ways, Iranian blood will be spilled by others on Iranian soil.
The same principle of open sea lanes that has the Iranians thumping their chests with respect to the Straits of Hormuz, acted here as well. That’s the mission.
Of course. They would also then claim they were the property of Iran and boast they could now reverse engineer/mass produce US personnel.
Their rescue by the U.S. Navy will probably be seen by Ironmydinnerjacket and his cronies as a ‘black eye’, and I suspect they may take out their embarrassment on these poor guys.
I learn on Deadliest catch than if ship is in trouble even if your enemy they help your behind LOL!
And then arrested them for being spies...
The pirates were put in time out for 2 hours.
Well it is normal for pirates to allow their captives to radio for help, right?
This story stinks.
Extra bonus irony: The USS Kidd (DDG 100) was the ship that did the rescuing. The *previous* USS Kidd (DDG 993) was originally ordered by the Shah of Iran but unbuilt when the Iranian Revolution overthrew him. The Kidd, and three more like her, were then completed specifically as guided missile destroyers for use in the hot weather of the Med and the Persian Gulf.

I don’t get your point, unless you are contending that we should act as the lowest common denominator.
Partially “Doing their job.” Had the USN done their job properly and completely there would have been no surviving pirates. Just what we need to do, scan the seven seas to round up more muzzie scumbags to bring home and put in our prisons. It’s not like we don’t have enough home grown prisoners at about 2.5 million.
I totally disagree with the asylum idea. We don’t need anymore frigging muslimes brought into this country for any reason(s).
lol—— Like we’re going to pick up any good will from this. The Iranian Gov’t view this as stupid infidels being nice...a sign of weakness
Though I’ll bet the Iranian captives are very happy and maybe genuinely thankful.
The law of the sea has and should trump the stupidity of politicians.
“Talk about irony!!”
Irony can be pretty ironic sometimes.
