I have no interest in Mitch Daniels and I remember full well the circumstances leading up to his withdraw. My comment was only a reference to the panicking popularity polls flailing about from candidate to candidate.

Admit it, if a year ago someone posted that Santorum and Gingrich would be hailed on Free Republic as our conservative presidential candidate standard bearers they would have been laughed off the Internet.

If Daniels had stayed in the race this week might have been his week. I'm waiting for the wide eyed galloping FReeper herd to start telling me how conservative Huntsman as Santorum falls to the long knives.

I won't be part of a herd for Huntsman or Romney or Paul. I regard Santorum, Gingrich and Perry as conservatives and sufficiently so to be POTUS, regard Santorum as the best of these and as the current front runner among them but believe that conservatives should coalesce around whichever of the three can deprive Romney and the investment bankers of the nomination.

Since his expressed desire for a truce on social issues, Mitch Daniels is dead to me now and forever. Social issues come first. Its nice that he ran a tight ship in Indiana but money is only money.
