DURANGO, Colo. -- A teenager said Durango High School is refusing to publish one of her senior photos in the yearbook.
Sydney Spies, 18, told the Durango Herald that administrators told her the senior portrait she submitted would not be printed in the yearbook because her attire in the photo violated dress code.
The newspaper said the high school requires that tops "fully cover the chest, back, abdomen and sides of the student."
The photo Spies submitted shows her wearing a yellow skirt with a black shawl that exposes her shoulders and midsection.
"We'll get the ACLU involved if they censor," said Sydney's mother, Miki Spies, on Facebook. "Don't say, 'Can't she just submit a different picture?' Censorship is wrong."
On Thursday evening, Miki Spies posted a longer comment on the controversy on her Facebook page:
"I wanted my daughter to chose a different photo but she is 18 and doesn't always listen! I knew this would be hard and it's proving to be. But when SHE chose this beautiful photo on my profile, I was 100% going to support her. Now that I know about Student Press Laws, I'm appalled that the administration disregarded the original vote by the student editors (4-0 in favor of Sydney Spies being able to use the photo) and got involved to overrule the photo. I guess word is spreading about this case all over the state and some people are talking about what a terrible mother I am. Some are upset at the administration is strong arming the students and some just think the picture is hot..."
Thanks. I have sometimes wondered how that worked.

Yes like that one, but ours were off the shoulders a bit more.
At last year's graduation, at my small town high school in the bible belt, our superintendent extolled the virtues of a poor girl who grew up to be rich and famous. He was holding Marilyn Monroe as an example of what kids should aim for.
I am disgusted by the photo but not so disgusted that I wont print it out and put it up in my shop
“Evidently there’s no father in the picture, either.”
And thank goodness - that would be creepy! ;)
We actually have a "conservative" local radio guy here in Denver defending the pic. Saying it was okay for the yearbook and not sexual just sexy. The more liberal co-host was reminded of porn when he saw it and was taking the more conservative side of the argument. That's exactly what it looks like to me--the lead up shot to her stripping down. I can't believe a mother of a teen would be okay with her daughter getting this kind of attention. Now I know most men will look at the pic and move on with their lives, but what about some creepy out there that doesn't. But when you want attention so badly that you offer a family member up to the wolves in the media and general public, I guess it's all good.
LOL!
You may be right.
Is thast her? How pathetic! hahahahahahah!
Sure looks that way.
This bimbo has such a pathetic exprfession on her face as if to say, “I pxxd in my pants.”
Her feet are dirty.

More pics that the mom sent to KHOW in Denver:
She had a hissy fit when her photo was omitted and called the ACLU, which caused the school to cave and now her picture has to be displayed perhaps forever in the school. It is offensive that an organization such as the ACLU can decide dress codes for schools.
After I saw her picture, I felt a little sorry for her. She looked like a younger Chaz (Cher's daughter). Maybe she had been bullied because of her looks and wanted revenge.
Why I am starting to breath all funny like....
That is exactly right and my thoughts too. Some people believe there should be no standards, decency or consideration for others and anything goes. Can't remember her name, but the girl that wanted to bring her female date to the prom was another case. Then you've got some of the breast feeders that think they should be able to flop it out in full view of the public anytime/anywhere.
There are a lot of rules that drive me nuts and I don't think every rule out there is a good one, but I side with the school on this one; although, I've heard they caved and have allowed the pic in as long as she purchases space for it in the back of the yearbook. I wonder what they (mom and daughter) will do next to get in the news now that they've had a taste of attention?
Step away now! Cool shower!
Looks like Cindy Lauper offspring.
Unfortunate looks.
Guess she doesn’t really have a choice in her future career...

As this situation appears to have all the indicators of a fully developed case of Boulder Dementia Syndrome, it is likely that scoliosis is not a factor. Given the probability of Boulder Dementia Syndrome, what “has been inserted” was most unlikely to be a broomstick.
Further the Guru typeth not, due to a rebellious gag reflex.
