Interestingly enough, I was just doing some research on submarines.
The USS Cavalla is the only preserved submarine that sank an aircraft carrier; she claimed the Pearl Harbor attack veteran Shokaku during the Battle of the Philippine Sea. Located at Seawolf Park in Galveston, Cavalla was damaged by Hurricane Ike but has since reopened.

Thanks, I never knew she was in Galveston. I will be in Galveston this February for a cruise, I booked into the Westin Galleria the day before, if I knew this, I would have booked in Galveston.
Maybe I can visit after the cruise.

FYI...The Cavalla itself was not damaged that bad by Ike. The sub is landlocked as you can see from the photo. The land around the sub and the USS Stewart was heavily damaged by the storm surge from Ike.
Seawolf Park is worth the trip if you are down in Galveston for a cruise.
Most of Galveston Island has slowly recovering from Ike.
