It may all be too little, too late for Newton Leroy Gingrich, but for the first time in a long time, the former House speaker looked like a candidate with some fight in him.
His campaign put out an ad contrasting his leadership with the timid Mitt Romney. Gingrich ridiculed Romney on the trail as a tax-raising moderate. And the Union Leader, which endorsed him for president back when times were good, printed a front-page editorial calling for voters to learn the lesson of Iowa and reject the squishy-moderate Romney.
It remains to be seen if Gingrichs campaign is still salvageable, and a Suffolk University tracking poll found that he had fallen into a tie for fourth place in New Hampshire with Jon Huntsman. Still, both Gingrichs supporters and his opponents see the possibility of another political resurrection in South Carolina.
And besides, another 24 hours gone by means another day closer to Saturdays debate, which will put Gingrich back in the format that allowed him to revive his campaign in the first place.

Screw Newt and Politico! Though I agree with wanting Newt to attack Willard. This is the best use of him.
When’s the last time what happened?
interesting how politico calls him Newton Leroy Gingrich. I wonder when they’ve ever referred to Barack Hussein Obama?
I guess it is ok to use someone’s middle name.
I don’t get why Newt would do a newspaper ad, though. Does anyone even read them anymore?
Newt had a good day.
Old people do. Their votes count just as much as any others.
It could get better if Newt would concentrate on the cutting of the military and ask the rhetorical question of whether Romney is ready to be Commander in Chief.
Oh, now I get it.
You really believe that Santorum can withstand the Obama machine? There is only one that has the politcal savvy to stand-up to what is about to happen....NEWT! He has been there and done it with these slime balls. Rick would get frick’n crushed by their $1 Billion.
And....the only way ANYONE that get’s the nomination playing against Obama is playing smash-mouth politics because that is what is coming at us. The real question needs to be who can play that game against this bunch?
Only one.....NEWT!!!!!!!!
“Newt had a good day.”
The polls don’t seem to agree.
2008. McCain finished 4th - but a closer 4th - than Gingrich.
McCain was the only one to break the maxim “3 tickets out of Iowa, 2 out of New Hampshire.”
If I believed that Newt is a conservative now instead of years ago, I would have been on his bandwagon. I also believe that Newt would crash and burn worse; he could not handle Mitten’s attacks.
Wow, I just noticed my triple post. Sorry.
Oh, btw..
Jim Robinson recently posted an article where he is requesting the following:
“I’d suggest that we all stop trying to tear down the other conservative candidates in the race and instead concentrate on trying to build up our own personal favorites...So let’s compare their records and their actual conservative accomplishments but not try to destroy them personally.”
So in the spirit of that:
Speaker Gingrich-led Republicans .the result:
* Four consecutive balanced budgets
* Over $400 billion of debt paid off
* Bipartisan welfare reform
* 11 million new jobs
* Unemployment falling to under 4%.
Fine. I’m happy to compare conservative accomplishments in the last ten years. Have you got any for Newt?
Why can’t people just praise their own candidate instead of trashing others? Perhaps we should just try to stay on threads of candidates we support.
Read Newt’s books from that period and get back to me then.
