I've seen worse in high school b-ball. But this is pretty bad.

The hacker, Cole Vanderbilt is just whacking guys all through the game. You have to believe the coach approved this BS. Shame on the refs for not calling it. So funny to watch him basically tackle a guy and act like nothing happened. Shameful sportsmanship.

If I was a basketball official, I would declare that the team could not play if #34 stayed on the team.

Coach Garza could put a stop to this any time he wanted.
Instead he wrings his hands about 'hurtful comments' directed at the fat kid. Those hurtful comments are better directed at the coach.

Since it was obvious that neither the Connell coaching staff nor the referees were going to put a stop to it, the Highland players should have ganged up on the bully. When he jumps up, slip a foot under his, accidentally fall in his path as he is back pedaling, etc. Nothing obvious, mind you.

It's too bad the fat guy with the goatee kept hammering guys from the other team and no one smashed his nose. At some point you have to stand up for yourself and your teammates

I have a son who played in High School basketball last year. We had some extremely nasty injuries during games that year. Saw kids carted off to the hospital with serious injuries at least two times. During the Division finals, one of the opposing forwards had a head injury and was openly bleeding during the game (even after getting bandaged).
It gets rough out there.

fwiw...Connell is in the middle of nowhere..its farm country and its a big producer of lentils, wheat, potatoes, etc....it also has a big prison there.....there isn't much else..it has a lot of latinos there...
so I expected this to be typical gangsta type activity....but its just a big old fat no talent white guy who is allowed to hack to make up for his demonstrative lack of athletic ability........

My girls have had that and worse happen to them on the court. And yes, some coaches approve of anything that will help them win, including "taking out" the better players on the opposing team.
I blame the refs for letting this stuff get out of hand.....technicals and ejections are not used nearly enough.

If I were fouled by that fat #@#$ and I was shooting free throws, I would have just chucked the ball right into the fat #@#$’s gonads, like they did to Ray Nitschke in “The Longest Yard.”

Wasn't even on a team but went through high school with broken ribs from playing basketball.
We all played it all the time ~ even had to scrape the ice off a nearby court to be able to play it without falling down.
Worst accident was riding home with this guy and we went around a corner where he fell out his door ~ which opened by surprise ~ and broke his collarbone. He was out of the game for weeks.
We all felt so sorry for him.
The fellows on the school team usually went about with black eyes and limps constantly.

Connell High are a bunch of farm kids, incapable of playing Basketball.
Nephews went there.
I was in the last full graduating class at Kennewick High, in 71.
Fatso would have got an elbow to the mouth, in my day.

Fat boy needs to get on the football team where everyone else can do the same. He’d be crying for his momma in less than 20 minutes after he got leveled a few times.
