Also...WTH is a 15 yr old doing in 8th grade? My kids were in 10th grade that age! My daughter will be 15 when she starts ninth grade (she is 13 and in 7th grade now). She repeated second grade, but is today an honor roll student whose favorite subjects are math and science. On the bright side, she'll be one of the few sophomores with a driver's license the first day of school :) My younger cousin repeated one of the early grades (can't remember which). Today he is a well-adjusted married 30-year-old father of four who teaches high school. Our youngest, who just turned 4, won't start kindergarten until the month before his 6th birthday, due to the cutoff date. Obviously there was something wrong with this kid in the story, which may explain why he was older than most 8th grade students. Just noting that not all kids who are a bit older than the norm are mentally or socially messed up.

True, cannot argue that. My mom’s older sister (by 13 months) had to start school a year late because my spoiled mom (my grandma made her rotten!) did not want my mother in the class without her older sister. Hence my aunt got to be a year older than the others. So your point is valid.
I grew up in elementary/middle school in 60’s early 70’s. WAs a different era not many kids were held back. Today I am sure it is much different. Very, glad to hear your kin have adjusted well and didn’t fall into the same category as this crazy kid in Texas.
