And yet, instead of blaming the feds and burdening their citizens even further, states like Arizona and Alabama stood up for their sovereignty, with already decreasing numbers of illegals.
Perry is nothing but excuses and blame.
Oh, and btw, those illegals who are receiving in-state breaks are also eligible for STATE AID. Would you care to define what state aid is and who, essentially, pays for it?
For lurkers, here’s how Texas Grants works. The difference for illegals is that to qualify to be a Texas Resident, they must attend Texas High Schools 3 years in a row:
For an initial award:
Are Texas residents
Have not been convicted of a felony or crime involving a controlled substance
Show financial need
Have an EFC less than or equal to 4000
Register for the Selective Service or are exempt from this requirement
AND
Be a graduate of an accredited high school in Texas not earlier than the 1998-99 school year
Complete the Recommended High School Program or Distinguished Achievement Program in high school
Enroll in a non-profit public college or university in Texas within 16 months of graduation from a public or accredited private high school in Texas and
Have accumulated no more than 30 semester credit hours, excluding those earned for dual or concurrent courses or awarded for credit by examination (AP, IB or CLEP).
As another Texas lawmaker said:
“I believe that taxpayer-funded grants should be reserved solely for legal residents of this state,” said state Sen. Brian Birdwell, R-Granbury, a Tea Party conservative who serves as vice chairman of the Senate Higher Education Committee. “In a time when our state budget is tightly constrained and legal residents are already paying record-high tuition rates, I think that these taxpayer dollars should be directed toward our citizens, not illegal immigrants and the incentivization of unlawful conduct.”
So Texas taxpayers are paying for this, period.
Of course they are. That’s the LAW in Texas, voted by the people’s representatives in Legislature and signed by the elected Governor. Texas wants this. If they don’t want it, then Legislators will pass a law, the Governor will sign it, and it won’t be law.
If this Birdwell fellow is so gung-ho, let him pass some legislation instead of just yakity-yak. Talk is cheap.

Perhaps I was endulging in a little fantasy.

That’s a pretty high standard and people who object to this had better be really careful.
As to illegal aliens or rather the US born childen of illegal aliens, it is a federal law that they are eligible for benefits, mostly food stamps and medicaid.
It’s beyond pathetic to say or imply that this is Rick Perry’s doing.
Actually most of Mexican illegals work. Statistics show that those receiving benefits do so because they work in low-paying jobs,usually manual labor and their incomes are so low they qualify for these benefits.
Oh, c’mon.
Home schooled kids? Nice if you have the money for the wife to stay home and do it and if you feel that your children are not getting a good education or are subjected to really bad influences.
It’s not for everyone, or very many people. I certainly didn’t do it and I doubt seriously if you did.
But Perry does support school choice and vouchers.
Actually, I’m not a die hard Santorum supporter. It’s become rather a default position at this point.
Romney? No
Newt? No
Perry? No
Ron Paul? (hell) No

It’s the which candidate that I hate the least thing.
Unfortunately, the more you learn about Rick S., as you will in the next week or so, you may start hating him also.
I feel good that I have a candidate I respect and can support wholeheartedly.

Clearly, to get a Texas Grant you have to be a pretty decent student, plus they review the grant annually. If it works for Texas, it’s their business to take care of it.

I would be inclined to defend Santorum against gotcha stuff also, but who defended Newt?
Who defended Perry?
Who defended Palin?
Who defended Cain (well a lot of people tried but he couldn’t defend himself)
The point is, it’s gonna be up to the candidate to defend himself and do it effectively and forcefully.
Forceful is not a word I associate with Rick S. He needs to take off the Mr. Rogers sweaters and put on some boxing gloves.
