I doubt Newt Gringrich would have done so badly if the Democrats had stayed home.

That is preposterous. If those 7,865 Paul voters who were Democrats would have stayed home, then the results would have been:

Santorum - 26.2%
Romney - 26.2%
Paul - 16.0%
Gingrich - 14.2%
Perry - 11.0%

Gingrich would have gained less than a percentage point, and he still would have trailed the Conservative candidate by 12.0 percentage points instead of 11.2.

The Democrats are doing everything they can to screw Republican conservatives. The elites of both parties are afraid of the man who has said Washington is broken and must be fixed.

Between flooding the cauci in Iowa with liberal Democrats voting in Republican assemblies, to Romney’s caustic and negative attack ads against Gingrich, his numbers have been driven downwards. No one is surprised by that.

We will see what happens in South Carolina and Florida. I hope Gingrich stays in for the long run and accumulates delegates to use for bargaining at the convention.
