I rode the Fred Thompson ride as well until I realized I was more excited about his candidacy than he was.
This year it was Cain. No Santa Claus and no Waiting for Superman.
I keep seeing the low cost metric for Rick but I think one could argue it a bit differently. Santorum was forced to focus a super majority of his time on Iowa and time = $$ in some regards. Romney only put in a few weeks work and otherwise it was just $$ and related PAC $$. Not saying Santorum did badly - just that the metric is not valid alone and doesn’t account for the fact that Santorum was pinned down and not able to progress as well in NH, SC, and FL as well (let alone MO, NV, CO, MI, ...)
They want to repeat the Thompson-Huckabee-Romney split that gave McCain the SC win in 2008.
I have watched Santorum for years and his Pro-Life and Pro-Family values are in accordance with his Faith, which I don’t question.
But in politics Santorum subordinates those values to loyalty to the GOP Establishment.
