My theory on liberalism.
We are mammals.
Mammals are geneticly programmed to acquire territory, and protect it.
Territory includes land, from which subsistence derives, and money, from which all other needs, physical, social, and psychological, are satisfied.
Only human mammals are capable of envy. Capitalism has no place for envy. Capitalism provides a framework in which all other human failings (like greed) are neutralized, subsumed, and harnessed for the good of the society as a whole. Envy mucks up the system.
Private property becomes anathema to the mental well-being of those who succumb to envy. Those who succumb to envy develop a warped psychological relationship to territory and wealth. Thus for liberals no psychological fulfillment can be achieved by acquiring territory and wealth, in the ways with which capitalism provides them.
The first inclination of liberals then, is to eschew private property, but only that private property which is acquired by the individual efforts of others. For liberals there is no dirty money. What’s yours is theirs, and how they acquire it from you has no psychological downside.
A human being consumed and controlled by envy cannot relate properly to territory or wealth.
A conservative, having seen the need to control his penchant for envy, cannot derive psychological fulfillment from winning the lottery, only wealth acquired from his own individual efforts can be fulfilling. Not so with liberals.
Liberals, consumed and controlled by their own envy of others’ possessions, cannot function properly in a capitalist order. For them, creating wealth becomes a waste of time, distributing it becomes the psychological and organizational imperative.
They have always been with us, and will always be with us. They desire territory and wealth, but derive no satisfaction from the ways in which the rest of us acquire it.
Since they see no need for private property, protecting it is something liberals refuse to participate in. Even theirs.
For wealthy liberals, especially theirs.
Again, people who cannot control their own envy cannot function in a capitalist order. People who cannot control their own envy will always be with us, mucking up the only system in history that harnesses, and to a certain extent, makes good use of all of our other darker impulses.
Cats are also capable of envy. As with humans, their envy is a byproduct of pride. Although very different emotions, pride leads to envy which left unchecked develops into hate and malice.
Human evolution is mostly driven by envy. Without it our intelligence would not have developed much beyond the amount needed to find food and shelter. Envy is what causes murder and more importantly tribal warfare. When war breaks out the more genetically or culturally advanced tribe has the advantage. Unlike natural selection which is slow and produces many variations on a theme, tribal warfare is quick and decisive, the losers completely killed off. Envy driven tribal warfare is the reason there is only one species of human alive today.
Leftists have always been with us. Even though they tend to lose in war and be killed off disproportionately they spontaneously reform from the left side of the bell curve.
There are two main ways to fight envy: 1) Mock the envious. Like Satan their vanity makes them thin skinned and unable to sustain mockery. They find it so devastating they consider it a powerful weapon and therefore use it frequently against the targets of their envy, though to less effect. 2) Cultivate humility, a virtue, not pride, a vice. The self-esteem movement infects young people with the mind virus of leftism which leads to evil.
