Was state land, not federal. And we had a deed agreement that the road would be gated and locked unless permission was granted by the DNR. Access was through my private land. The problem was that many of the people going back there were going there for illicit purposes. As we learned, nobody was going to enforce the law there, or patrol there.

Two of my relatives owned farms outside Coos Bay Or. Fred came home one night and they were loading his house into their truck. Another time this PG woman was in the mob, he fires a gun into the air and she sued him. My uncle had sold his farm by 1970 and one day I get the newspaper clipping about a shooting. This nut haw walked up to the bay window and shot two people. The wife went to the phone and he blasted that. She ran to another house and called the cops. The State police found this guy walking down the road like nothing happened.
