In an interview with ABC News, Newt Gingrich accused his Republican opponents of lying in their negative ads and offering no hope they will be any good as president.
Politics has become a really nasty, vicious, negative business and I think its disgusting and I think its dishonest, Gingrich told ABC News aboard his campaign bus in Iowa.
And I think the people who are running the ads know they are dishonest and I think a person who will do that to try to get to be president offers you no hope that they will be any good as president, he said.
According to the Campaign Media Analysis Group, 45 percent of all campaign ads in Iowa this month have included attacks on Gingrich...
Were gradually going to have to figure out how to essentially take apart the negative ads, Gingrich, 68, said. I mean I am committed to running a positive campaign and we have to find a way to communicate.
I think theres a very real likelihood that I can be the nominee but its going to be a fight, Gingrich said.
No matter what happens in Iowa even if he comes in fifth Gingrich says the campaign will carry on.
Im going to survive, period. Youre talking to somebody who in the national polls is tied for first or first. I think Ill survive OK. I think Ill survive, Gingrich said. The next phase will be to go to New Hampshire and then after that youll go to South Carolina and I think I will probably win South Carolina and I think by then well have figured out how to deal with each of these negative ads in a way that disposes them and how to communicate actively who are opponents are.

In the article, he explains how he is going to more effectively reply starting to SC.
And most of it seems to be from Karl Rove and his pet Mitt.
I am struggling to see how you like Newt more than Mitt. They both seem like big government guys, but one seems steady and the other seems like a loose cannon.
Well, it is nice to see that politicians are finally figuring out what most of us have know all along. Politicians are really nasty, vicious, negative and disgusting...
I could easily vote for newt, not romney, but Newt, not huntsman, but Newt, but I would be very hesitant to vote for a Newt/Palin ticket.
I place his odds at firsty/firsty
Newt telling it like it is which is going to piss off the Newt-haters even more.
Good!
I respect Gingrich for two reasons:
He effectively neutralized Bill Clinton.
He was the first deliberate liberal target of a Saul Alinsky style personal destruction (with zero help from other Republicans at the time).
Gingrich get it. He’ll be a fighter, and he won’t pretend it’s someone else doing the fighting like Romney.
Romney is every bit as nasty as Karl Rove. He just used plausible deniability. I do not respect Mitt.
I very much, respect Gingrich.
Rombot,
Are you calling Flippity Flopney of Massachusettes steady?
LOL!
What a coincidence. I heard one of Newt’s nasty ads on radio this morning. I have tried to give Newt a chance, but just when I am about to say YAY, he says or does something to kill it. And he is way too conciliatory on the #1 issue for patriotic Americans: illegal immigration. Newt is a self-contradicting chameleon, or as we used to say, a yo-yo.
Newt is being attacked.
When being attacked, fight back.
It’s that simple.
You have to admit, Newt plays a great victim.
Yes after all putting the squash on Hillarycare and her sleazy husband was such baggage.
Do you ordinarily use language like that?
Yeah, he's pulling out all the stops on all the roles (who can count them?) that he plays. I actually think he is the most entertaining candidate, but we need more than an entertainer.
Really?
Newt's first wife, Jackie Battley was his high school geometry teacher. He started "seeing" her when he was 16-18 years old. When he was eighteen she was twenty-five. Marianne Gingrich said he was just 16 when he started that relationship.
Newt is a weird man
And he won back congress for us after 40 years in the wilderness. I kinda like that.
“Newt is a weird man”
Not to argue the point that Newt is a weird man, but what’s all that weird about a sixteen year old blob of hormones falling for his twenty-something year old teacher?
Newt was a teenager FGS - the teacher was in the position of power and should not have begun that relationship.
No matter - the couple had two daughters and he was a good father.
That first marriage - at such a young age might very well have influenced his subsequent relationships.
