The stats match up with the amount of socialism in each place.

Strange how that works isn't it. They don't even report the murders on TV here in Chicago any more unless they are something spectacular or there is YouTube video.

However at the state level the socialism / murder rate doesn't track exactly. Washington, Oregon and Hawaii are very low and you would be hard pressed to find more liberal states. Here are the rates for 2010, best to worse.
New Hampshire 1
Vermont 1.1
Idaho 1.3
Iowa 1.3
Wyoming 1.4
North Dakota 1.5
Hawaii 1.8
Maine 1.8
Minnesota 1.8
Utah 1.9
Washington 2.3
Colorado 2.4
Oregon 2.4
Montana 2.6
Wisconsin 2.7
Rhode Island 2.8
South Dakota 2.8
Nebraska 3
Massachusetts 3.2
West Virginia 3.3
Kansas 3.5
Connecticut 3.6
Ohio 4.1
New Jersey 4.2
Kentucky 4.3
Alaska 4.4
Indiana 4.5
New York 4.5
Virginia 4.6
Arkansas 4.7
California 4.9
North Carolina 5
Texas 5
Florida 5.2
Oklahoma 5.2
Pennsylvania 5.2
Delaware 5.3

Could American murder rates have anything to do with continent-of-origin? Oh, probably not. Just ruminating.
