My only hope at this point is for a brokered convention where we get neither Mitt nor Newt.
When the Pennsylvania primary rolls around in May, I will vote for Newt if Mitt is leading. I will vote for Mitt if Newt is leading. Or (hopefully), I will vote for anybody else if they are still in the race. Excepting (possibly) that crazy moonbat Ron Paul.
A brokered convention becomes a possibility if:
- Ron Paul wins in Iowa and, as a bonus, demotes the state to the relative pissant status which it so richly deserves.
- Mitt Romney wins in New Hampshire less convincingly than expected.
- Newt Gingrich pulls off a similar unconvincing win in South Carolina.
- Florida results are inconclusive.
If, and only if, said pattern continues the GOP establishment might consider the possibility that we need an actual conservative on the ticket.
My ideal ticket would have been Ryan/Rubio. They are the future of the GOP. Ryan would have been able to debate and destroy Obama on the budget and economy. And both are young and energetic. The contrast last time between McCain and Obama was striking in terms of a young, vibrant hip politician against an aging out of touch old man. Gingrch and Romney are just reincarnations of McCain, just a little more eloquent and quicker on their feet.
Frankly, as things are going now, I would prefer a brokered convention or at least have someone else jump into the campaign. It maybe too late given the filing requirements. Like many conservatives, I am not very happy about the choices we have now.
